I purchased 2 Koralin Biodenitrators, one for my fish only system (90g) and one for my reef tank (160g). I followed the directions of week one 2 drops per sec and week two reduce to one drop per second. I have had one running for 3 weeks and the other for 2 and I have had no success, can someone please let me know what I am doing wrong. I have heard nothing but praise regarding this equipment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I had one and got rid of it. It can work but it is very touchy. If the sulpher is getting black then increase drip rate, thats about all I can say.

Here is a link to a thread about sulfur denitrator's

Although it is not specifically about koralin reactors, they all basically work the same way.
The link is about a DIY reactor that is having good results.
I have made a smaller version out of a Phosban Reactor, & I am having very good results with it. when you seed the reactor for the initial startup, you set the effluent from it to a slow drip(1 ~ 2 dps ) when the reactor effluent reads 0 No3 ( 3 ~ 5 days) or has a sulfur smell to it, you then increase the drip rate. this will continue for several days until the sulfur media has fully seeded with bacteria, possibly longer depending upon the type of sulfur & the amount of sulfur media in the reactor. eventually you come to a point where the effluent flow is enough for the amount of No3 feeding the reactor to register 0 No3 in your display.

Check out the link, there is some good info in it to relate to your unit, & how a sulfur reactor works. eventually you want to run 1 liter of water for each liter of sulfur media through the reactor every hour. this can eventually be increased to 3 x the water amount. One thing to remember is to check your Alk. level once a week. the reactor will lower the level & you may need to boos it.

you can Pm me if you want to, I'll try to help the best I can

I run the same reactor and it works great in my system; no detectable nitrates. Are you testing the output of the reactors; that will tell you if they are working or not. It could take time, depending on the tank before you notice notable decrease; 'nothing good happens fast'.

The instructions say give it 4-6 weeks to fully dial in and develop a population of bacteria. You are getting impatient.... just give it some more time and don't fiddle so much with it. Let it do its thing....
