Hello Uncle Gilbert,

Thank you for the post. The EHEIM pump is used as a recalculating pump for the reactor. The 1048 pump does not create any sort of suction that will pull water from your sump. Therefore you would need a feed pump (DOSING PUMP). This dosing pump would feed water into the reactor and the Eheim pump forces the water thru the media. It is not advisable to remove the pump as the unit will not function properly. The Tom Aquatics Aqua Lifting Dosing Pump is the pump you would need to get the reactor working.

The sulfur based media dissolves as the bacteria consume the media. In some instances the media may turn black, this is because the bacteria is consuming the media. Depending on the amount of nitrates present in your system, the media may need to be refreshed after six months. However these units ship with a healthy amount of sulfur based media, so you should have media lasting longer than two years.

Hello MD
As per the above i have now been running the denitrator since october
it is dripping 2 drops per second (one from normal return and one drop per second from
top bleeder )
it ---HAD--- already reached a stage of putting out zero nitrates now in recent days it is producing nitrates instead of removing

testing today showed higher nitrates coming out of the reactor than i have in my tank
aprox 25 ppm in my tank with a salifert test kit and 100 out of reactor .i have compared with api test and it is the same.

is there something i should be doing here.
or something im doing wrong ??
should i shut one drip down so i have only one drip per second.

otherwise i will start dosing with sugar or vodka.
i do water changes but i have a heavy feed load with a small trigger ,small eel,3 damesels, 2 oscillarus clowns a small tomato ,rabbit fish,
in a 200 fowlr with about 100 lbs of LR

thanks
Jim

Uncle Gilbert,

The unit should be be dripped out of the center valve. That needs to be closed shut with the included ball valve. The unit should be dripping either one (1) or two (2) drips per second, but only out of the outlet. The center valve is used to release gas buildup when there is little flow. At this point since you are having nitrate build up out of the reactor, this means the bateria is reforming inside the unit. Please keep the drip rate at two (2) drips and you should see improvement, if the flow is too slow and preventing an increase in drips, this means your feed water is moving in too slow.

Thanks,
Marine Depot

Im feeding with a eheim pump.the same as the pump on top of the reactor so thats a non issue.

i will stop bleeding out of the gas release but i cant comprehend any difference between bleeding off either return.

thanks
