krazy glue

NO!!!!! you need to use super glue GEL or BSI IC GEL... i like the BSI best... works alot better than super glue

Occasionally the 99 Cent Store has an "off" brand of Supr Glue Gel.................ingredients are the exact same as the higher priced stuff......................3 tubes .99 cents!!!

Steve :D

it need to say, cyanoacrylate( or however you spell it). that stuff was first developed by the pharmacy industry. to use insted of stitches believe it or not.

is it safe to use krazy glue to hold down sps in a tank?
if yes, what's the process?

thanks.

Yes, it's safe. And yes, you can use Krazy Glue. They make a gel type as well. Using the gel type is better (whichever brand you use) as it is thicker and can better fill the space between the frag and the rock surface.

It's best if you can remove both the frag and the rock you are attaching it to from the water. Dry both the rock and the attachment end of the frag. Apply gel to the end of the frag and place the frag on the rock. Hold 30 seconds to a minute until it sets, then place the rock/frag into a bowl of tank water and let it set for another 10 minutes or so (this is not necessary - you can put the frag direcly into your tank, but oftentimes current, fish or other critters will knock the new frag over, displacing it from the rock. Allowing it to more fully "set" before placing it into the tank lessens this possibility).

And don't worry, most SPS frags can do quite well outside of water for several minutes - as long as you aren't cooking the frag under a heat source like your lights. So, don't worry about getting the frag out of the water and drying off the attachment point. Handle the frag tenderly though, you can crush the thin layer of flesh by rough handling while you are gluing it.

HTH,
Kevin

I've left soft corals out of water for 5-6 minutes while gluing, without any obvious problems.

Usually on a small piece of paper towel on the kitchen counter, until the glue is very set, then back into the tank.

Why is it better, is it thicker or sets up faster?

 The gel is easier to use but the reg stuff is still safe. Like Kev said, SPS will do fine out of the water for a few minutes...I've had em out for longer then a few without any problems.

not true

many people have used crazy glue for years without any problems. there are other glues that may work faster as mentioned in the other replys, but this reply is BS

I've had good luck with any odd brand of "gel type" cyanoacralate.
I like the smallest tubes for working in the tank. I think of them as a one-shot size because water likely backflows into them. In the tank a skin immediatley forms which allows you to gently and quickly mold it onto the frag with your finger.

the post had its merits. have you tried gluing frags using regular super glue vs super glue gel? i must say, using the gel variety is sooooooooo much easier....not to mention cleaner.

Wilbur, "safe" is the key word here...I think we all can agree that the gel is easier but both are "safe" to use.

LOL....if it cyanoacrylate, it's reef safe. Many ways to mount a frag with super glue, the gel being the easiest way.

That being said, I picked up a couple of tubes of the BSI gel from Gabriel today. Holy cow....this stuff rocks!! I was looking for stuff to move around in my tank to try this gel out.

This gel literally sets in less than 30 seconds...perfect for situations where you want to mount a frag or small colony on a side of a rock jutting out horizontally. Literally set and forget!

Thanks, Gabe for the heads up!
