I have a 90 gallon and i have a Kryponite Candy Cane coral that has about 15 heads on it. Now i noticed that tissue is really receding fast from the bottom is this normal as they grow? I know they lose tissue from the bottom as they are growing but i noticed quite a bit of tissue loss in the past 4 or 5 days. temp 78 s.g 1.026 cal 420 alk 8.5 mag 1400tank im sure phosphates are low because i don't really have any algae in my tank. Nitrates are around 1.

If nothing else I would frag a couple heads and move them away from the mother colony. Also, please post some pics; I really like the kryptonite candy cane.

mine do that as thy grow. the skeleton shows as they get bigger/longer. However, i wouldn't say noticeable tissue loss is normal. Are you saying you can tell a difference over the last few days? It happens very slowly as they grow for me.

If the tissue is receding from the bottom of a head, I would guess that it's not recieving enough light. It's quite common to see this in sps corals as far as I know. Maybe that's what's happening here?

not enough or too much light. something is not making it happy. if the skeleton is bleach white, and is showing more each day, there are problems somewhere. it coudl be getting picked at by a fish, or getting too much/little light or flow.

yes it has been noticable over the course of a week or so and the tissue is just receding on the stalk it seems like once it gets to a certain point of the heads it just stops. But just don't think it's normal for it to recede the fast.
