also what is this piece?

is it suppost to be secure or free floating.
There was also a pen in there, Any reasoning?
The valve does not seem to be doing anything either. it doesnt control the amount or size of bubbles or anything that i can notice. thanks in advance for all the help and once again Kurt thanks for everything you gave me and all the help.

well the air lines on the top are not needed. The only one that looks like it matters is the one going in the input of the pump. Make sure it can suck air and is not blocked.

The configuration I am used to is the air going in right at the top of the input pipe on the bottom of the skimmer. There is a connection on top of the input pipe.

Don't know what the extra piece is for maybe discard after you get it working. Can't tell if someone tried to do any modifications.

I have a question why is there a metal valve at the top ? Metal is not anyones friend when it comes to saltwater systems .

where does the other side of the line going in the input of the pump connect to? I can not find any thing on the bottom for a line to connect to.

im not sure what that valve is for, but i did hook that valve up to the pump and the water level in the skimmer has risen and it looks to me (an idiot) like it is working alot better.

the valve is to shut off output from the skimmer cup or it was from a previous mod where they were using an air stone. This thing is so simple somebody turned it into a cluster f***

connects to nothing. so the pump can suck air and create bubbles! :D

here is how i have mine setup.

i have my skimmer outside the sump. the airline coming from the pump i have in the little holder at the top of the skimmer mine has a little set screw so the line will stay there. i think it is just so the airline will not fall into the water it has to suck air for the venturi to work in the pump. the other hose from the collection cup i just have running to a two liter bottle it keeps the wet skintament from overflowing in the cup. i did some plumbing mods on mine so i could use regular pvc for the drains.

as far as they say about the airline down my the intake of the skimmer. if you are using a red sea turbo pump it has the veturi built into the pump if you use a regular mag drive pump you have to have a venturi at the intake of the skimmer. mine is just plugged off. that is the diffrence between a classic and turbo skimmer.

i got mine free and with no instructions so i did a lot of looking at these on the net. there are lots of mods for these if you searched RC you should find all kinds of stuff on these skimmers.

i hope this helps out a little. i think someone was just trying to make it way to hard before you got it.

MIKE, SORRY WAS DOWNSTAIRS MESSING WITH MY NEW LIGHTS, the airline goes from the pump nose thru-the bottom of that set screw to adjust the amount of air going into the skimmer, the pump also has 4-5 settings on the front a turn dial, & the peice of tubing with the water supply shutoff is just a drainline that you can turn on or off & since its waste water, metal is ok, as far as the pen goes must have fallin in while it was in the office wainting to go on ebay.

ok thanks pana and kurt. Let me know how you like the new lights, i want to see pics. thanks alot everyone.
