Kurt03's 220 Build

I recently purchased a house so I will be moving my 150 reef to it! The setup has been running for a little over a year, I hope to make a few changes to improve it during the move. Everyone bare with me, this is my first tank thread!

Lets start with a few current equipment specs and pics.

The tank is a glass 150 that I got for a great deal from someone that was downsizing. It is 18" wide which is about the only thing I would change, and while I would have loved to go wider and it would be the perfect time during this move I just couldn't comfortably squeeze it into the budget so that will have to wait for a future upgrade. It currently has 3 250 watt MH over it on M80 ballasts and radium bulbs. Under the tank is a 55 gal sump that has a NW200 skimmer that was moddied with a mesh wheel. The return is a panworld 50px-x at around 1100 gph, part of which is split to a fuge. There is a geo calcium reactor with a ph controller and the rest of the tank is controlled by a aquacontroller with 2 DC8's. In tank circulation is 2 tunze pumps on a aquasurf. The current fish list is 2 mated clowns, 1 naso, and 1 sailfin. Coral is mostly sps, a frogspawn, and some pesky xenia.

Ok enough writing here is some old pics to buy some time :P

Hey Kurt, good to hear you are doing well! Congrats on the house and I can't wait to see your new build. I know it has to be killing you to be sitting on that new skimmer and not being able to use it. With that said, hurry up! :D

Your not kidding! Ive been sitting on the skimmer for months without being able to use it. I had to put it in the box in a corner of a room that im not in often to help keep my mind off it!

So Im looking for a return pump now. Ive had great luck with the panworld I have now, it just wont be big enough for the basement sump. Ive measured out and it looks like I will have about 41' of horizontal head and 11' of vertical head with around 5 90's.
If I go with the panworld 150ps I think it will give me around 660gph to the display at around 180watts, or if I go with the 200ps it will be around 1000gph at 290 watt :eek2:

Does anyone have any other suggestions for return pumps? Id like to keep it as efficient as possible.

Heres a quick pic of the where the floor bracing will be. I hope to get this about done today and get some updated pics.

I do to, he follows me around the tank and eats right out of my hand.

Thanks! Im trying to make some improvements during the move.

Does anyone have comments on the return pump? Im looking for some suggestions here so I can order one soon.

Heres some pics of the bracing under the tank. The tank will sit the wrong way on the floor joists so I have to brace it. The red line in the pics is where the tank will be above it. Is it ok with out a brace after the door or should I place one right after it? Please post any comments on the bracing, id rather do it right the first time! :eek1:
The braces still need centered and stuff but they are roughed in.

Ok, now things are getting interesting!

Ive been holding off building my stand cause Ive been looking for a tank wider than 18". I almost had a used one but it was bought right before i got to look at it. Ive been keeping my eye out and found a deal from aquarium adventure for a 210 gallon for $470! Cant beat that and seems to be built just fine. Just a few quick shots, had to drive 2.5hrs one way to get it. So after about a 5 hour round trip here it is :love2:

Thanks to everyone that helped move it into the house!

How can I change the title of the thread to Kurt03's 210? :bounce3:

Very nice! Congrats on the bigger tank! :D I can't wait to see what you do with the aquascaping with all the room you have.

Hey Sone! Im hoping to keep a open scape, along the lines of less is more but I still need enough room for all the corals :D Im hoping I can find a happy balance and get away from the rock wall my current tank is. Currently thinking of a stack on each end with a valley in the middle but might change if i see something else I like.

Indymann99: The tank wont be in-wall, right behind that wall is my bedroom closet so cant get rid of that. There will be a basement sump room though.

Thanks for the input, its what this thread is for!

Congrats on the new tank.. 210G and a sump room makes me envious... Some day.

What I am not envious is all the work you're about to embark on. I think building my own stand was about all I could take when all I wanted at the time was some water in the tank. :D

Good Luck!

Sadly nothing exciting, the stand structure is done though. I need an updated pic but here is before it was glued and screwed. Im debating on holding off on the basement sump till I catch up on some other things. This will also give me time to do it right instead of throwing it together. Currently my 150's at my parents and it will save me allot of time once I get it moved to my house.

Hey Kurt, good to see you moving ahead with your build. Take your time and do it right. Take it from a lazy man, do it right so you won't have to do it again. ;)

I agree Sone and thats why Im leaning towards a normal sump and then adding a basement sump sometime down the road. Ill be happy as long as I can fit my skimmer thats all I care :D

What type of paint do you paint the inside of stands with? Just any latex paint?

Can anyone guess my newest hobby?
