Are you brewing your own beer?

Nice looking stand. Take your time and do it right so you won't have any regrets or having to redo something later because you didn't think it through the first time.

Hey Kurt are you still planning on using the 55g as the sump or upgrading and using the 150g you now have available? Remember it's always best to have more water volume and I'm sure you could divide it up nice and include a built in fuge. Congrats on the new tank, i'm sure youll be happy with it and I will be checking back in to see your progress.

Good luck and good reefing

For now planning on using the 55 as sometime down the road I would like to build a sump room and expand that way. The 55 will be alot easier to remove from under the stand at that time. As long as the skimmer fits ok I will prob stay with the 55. If I have a really hard time selling the 150 then i might consider using it anyways.

Thanks for the comments guys!

wow sometimes life gets in the way and we dont realize how long its been! Im back and ready to get this done though!!

The structure of the stand is done, skinning is started. Front and side pieces are cut, front is attached and waiting to attach the sides till sump is installed. Havent decided on the trim.

I need to fix the brace in the tank. Basically it has one huge center brace and I would like to split it into two smaller braces. Is two 6" braces enough across a 72" span? (pic below)

Im currently hunting for a tank to use instead of my 55 for a sump. That will 1. allow me to have the new tank setup completely before having to move anything, and 2. it will let me get a little larger sump. mainly i want a wider sump so im hunting for a 18" wide 65 gal.

Hey Kurt, I can't see your pics. :( It's cool you are getting around to completing your build; should make your winter more enjoyable. :D

BTW, I finally heard back from Ryan and he is doing ok. I still haven't heard from Chris though.

Weird, they are showing for me. Tried on two different computers too... So much for my attempt at using picasa. Thought it would be easy since I can upload straight from my phone, here the pics I posted earlier and a shot of finishing up the drywall patch for the floor bracing...

Im currently looking for a sump and return pump. After I get ahold of a chop saw I will start on my light hood.

Now I can see the pics, good progress! I hope you can find a more suitable sump so you can really get this puppy going.

Yesterday picked up a sump and got the stand skin edges routed!
Hopefully things will start picking up now.
Salt was delivered too :bounce3:

basically an Askoll 1500, should give me around 800-900 gph after head loss which is about how much water my skimmer feeds I think. Im slightly concerned its not enough turnover through the sump, so if it cause problems it will get changed out. I think it will be ok being it should be matched close to the flow through the skimmer, Thoughts?

At 800-900gph, you are turning your display over 5-6 times per hour and that is ideal.

Just had to pickup a few things from the local fragswap ;)
Sorry about the cell phone pics! I should get my camera back soon.

Wow! You did very well at the frag swap! It looks like you got a pink lemonade acro and a ORA German blue polyp acro. I am digging the acan as well! Nice score, Kurt!! :D

sounds right to me, not sure what the 2nd to last pic is but Im happy with them all.

Sump baffles are done and dry! I think ive found a place to cnc an acrylic overflow with teeth for the cost to cost overflow. Just waiting on the quote for it.

If you can't find someone local to do it, most tank manufacturers will make it for you as well. It wouldn't be that much to ship it either.

The 2nd to last looks like a tort of some kind. Maybe an ORA blue/Cali tort since there is green in the body. Who knows; you got some nice corals though!

Temp GFCI, eventually I will have two dedicated circuits for the tank. 15 or 20 amp.

Last coat of paint on the inside of stand. Had to pull the front finish wood off the stand cause I will have to remove a brace to get the sump in.

Whats the best place to get dry rock now? Are people still getting it from Marco? I dont have anything to complain about the 100+ pounds of it in my 150 but if theres a better place let me know :)

It depends on the shapes that you like. I recently got some Pukani rock from BRS and it is by far the best I have gotten in regards to dry rock. I have ordered from Marco and BRS. Both have nice stuff so it just depends on what you are looking for.
