I do not alternate the CL flow. I considered the Ocean Motion rotating drum but decided against it because of cost. However, I could still put it in if I wanted... I also considered a SeaSwirl which is easier to implement plumbingwise but still expensive. I installed a hidden power outlet for the SeaSwirl should I ever decide to install one. But right now if I had budget for more equipment, I would invest in a good dosing pump solution to increase water stability and reduce system maintenance effort.
As for GPH. My Snapper/Dart hybrid is rated at 2600 gph with the Snapper impeller which is what I have on now and 3600 gph with the Dart impeller. But that is CL flow which is quite different from powerhead flow. My return manifold puts in another 950 gph of flow which of course exist as well on the opposite side of the tank where it drains through the overflow.
I haven't had the system running long enough to give a fully experienced opinion yet, but currently my worry is that there is too much flow or perhaps I need to give up on LPS corals... I say this because I've blown torches away with my returns. I have to be real careful where I point the outlets and where I place my corals.
