LA Fishguy video's

I dont know how you guys find the time to watch all those 10+ minute videos. I had to click away from him after the first 3 minutes.

I do think its abit underhanded to stomp on someines character on a public forum. Especially when they arent here to defend.

Im sure the guy has personal contact info.

Are his customers unhappy? Dont you think if he was as clueless as you say, his clientell wouldve blown the whistle? He appears to still be in business?
 
maybe his customers dont know any better, probably why they hire out anyway because they don't know anything about the hobby themselves. If they knew how good their tanks could be or look he would be working for them.

also have you heard how he talks about his customers?

have you watched any of his vids did you see the one where he just dumps calcium suppliment partsA&B into a softy tank without testing or messuring?

there is a significant amount of algae in every tank I have seen him service, and he wonders why. (or does he)

His customers aren't unhappy because they don't know any better. There is nothing wrong with doing things your way, but if your going to claim to be a professional, and actually charge people to maintain an aquarium for you, then I find it to be your personal business to continue your education. LAFishGuy doesn't even follow the most basic rules. The worst part is he acknowledges that he doesn't follow the rules and he claims he doesn't have to because he is an expert. It is ridiculous! None the less...I agree i'm addicted to his videos as well they are so funny. I actually think he has something going here, but more in the form of reefing comedy than education video.

His customers probably don't care. They want to come home after a hard day and relax next to the fish tank. To them it is more like a piece of furniture than a hobby. I'd bet that half of his customers don't know the names of the fish in their tanks. They just call LAfish guy and say I want a fish tank. He sets up the tank the way he wants it, not them.

On the other side of things he is putting himself out there for criticism by making making the videos.

I agree,.. I bet most just call and say "what ever you think lafishguy"
If you are setting a tank up for some one that doesn't know anything about what they are getting it would be easy to tell them anything you want them to know whether its true or not.
 
I'd bet the only info they want is the price.
Did you see the one where LA Fishguy was upset because the customer wanted an automatic feeder? They didn't even want to have to feed them.
 
there's some customers who just don't care. some people distance them from the aquariums but just want to look at the fish every now and then.. these are the people most businesses take care of

and i think if you're running a business you need to have the equipment available to do something right. if he's making money, which i'm sure he is, he should have invested back in his business before spending the money

I am sure he is not ripping people off. He looks like he knows what he is doing and if he didnt he would of gone out of the biz quick with this bad economy.. but like what others say some of his info he says are not true... You goto any lfs or maintenance guy and im sure 100% of the things they say are not true. Btw I dont know why anyone would want to hire someone to maintain their own tank, I think if you cant maintain a tank then you shouldnt set one up.
 
I absolutely agree about the customers he is working FOR.
There are "maintenance types and teacher types".
Maintenance types may take the quickest, "most efficient way", teachers inform you how to do it right , and what the wrong way is
teachers know there may be more than one way, and the want to find out more info about the setup the individual has. Clearly, he is not tracing, evven though he thinks he is. Seems to me he's acting from an ego place and not a teacher place.
True teachers have the nads to explain the best practices. People who want a buck , tell you what you want to hear.
Teachers tell you what you NEED not what you WANT.
 
at least he broke down and bought a refractometer. poor guy sounded all sad about it, im sure people are going to harass him about how its not calibrated correctly now and not use ro/di for calibration lol

Ahhh where is the vid where the dude scratches the tank...I looked for it for half an hour. Anyone got a link?
