Lacking polyp extension...kinda

Do you know how much the Alk changes before and after a water change? ALk of the tank is 8.5, Alk of RSCP is 12+, correct? I mention this as something to consider, no idea if it's a real problem.

I guess im a bit different than some...but i run 1 HOB CPR fuge on the back of the main display with 24/7 unless i manually change that randomly, a fuge in my sump with 24/7 13 watt 2700k standard CFL, plus a mini display for my gobbies and pistol with some random macro algae and chaeto on a timer with some of my main display lights. I just pulled about 3 gal worth of chaeto (darn not having my posts so i can put that up FS if someone wanted it)...but that was after about 45 days or so...i have my fuge light about 8" above the water level for the chaeto.

You're lighting looks inadequate..........I know you were looking to upgrade that to a 6-8 bulb fixture. I think that's a good move.

Just looking at the picture I don't know what type of fixture that is, but most of the cheaper ones have garbage ballasts or don't cool the bulbs correctly & you can lose spectrum/ par quite quickly.

Where do you live?

I was thinking that was a possibility as well, but it just confuses me how some are doing SO well, some not. I have ATI reflectors and bulbs, all brand new a month ago. 1 - 4 bulb unit, 1- 1 bulb unit = 2 coral plus, 2 blue plus, 1 purple plus)

Im in north royalton, frequent to mentor, work in akron...why whats up?

I vote...Run your Fuge lights 24/7 and switch to/add LEDs for reduced energy consumption... pH swings...maybe...massive chaeto growth...hell yes. My system ain't perfect...far from it...but I'm nearing $15 a month for selling chaeto to my LFS and about to set up another tank. Thanks to my G/F wanting "Pretty Fishies" that aren't reef safe.

Any suggestions is more than welcome for the 55-gal build. She likes Powder blue tangs, butterfly fish, and other pretty fish that we can find for under $60...

Anyway, I know cameras don't pick up blue light...but I'm just not seeing enough light. Blue is deceiving with PAR though. Any chance you have an LFS or part of a local club that would check out your PAR with you? As much as I love actinics on my corals, I just tried a 50:50 420: 10,000K LED light from ABI and LOVE it over the 12 420-450 LEDs.

THe range of visible colors is much greater and you still get some of the phosphorescence. Something to look into.
