LaCl Reactor

Oh. Okay. I thought the set did start it up. Anyway, that's great to know about the midnight kind of synchronization(sic). Everything is doing fine today :fish2: I plan to test tomorrow. I'm so thankful that you were on last night because I was really worried when the doser just kept running:worried2: I definitely don't need LC flowing freely in the tank or dropping the PO too quickly. So "Thank You" again for your help and the good information:thumbsup: I sure hope everything goes great with this dosing....

Not a problem... sorry I did not respond quicker (yesterday/last night) been busy at home and work. Glad I was on late two nights ago.

Keep up the good work. How about a new thread in reef/new/large tank where ever you fit with some pictures and all.

Didn't get my PO checked yesterday...will do that today and post. I'm interested in how it's doing :0)

Worm, I'd love to post some pics BUT my camera needs replaced :( I've been researching but haven't finished yet. Hope to get the replacement soon as vacation is fast approaching (end of Sept)...taking the hubby to Washington DC:) Your neck of the woods :o) Will post PO result later......

My daughter lived in NC for a couple years(Sanford)...not too far from Myrtle Beach. She was a traveling RN after that so I got to see some country :0) When she lived in NC, we took our trip to D.C. Had an Aunt and Uncle that lived in Maryland but they have since passed on. I love the East Coast and the people :0) West Coast people, not so much...

Ok, ,just finished up my testing. When I started the LC on the 18th, the phosphates were .067 Just now, .079 Up by .012 What dose is suggested? Can I go just a little higher? I'd like to find the maintenance dose first. Since I'm not in a hurry, can I just increase the dose a little?

As I recall your start dose was very low. I would double your dose and pull a baseline in 2 days. No perfect math necessary here. If you are dosing every 15m, cut it down to 7.5

Will do Insomniac :0) Do I increase the dose time to 30 seconds also or just the change to 7.5mins? 000:00/000:15/000:7:45 or 000:00/000:30/000:7:45 ?

I do a WC every Monday so I guess it will skew the results? Maybe I'll skip a week as I'm not reading any nitrates...... Thanks!

If your current statement is this:
Fallback OFF
OSC 000:00/000:15/014:45 THEN ON

You would change to
Fallback OFF
OSC 000:00/000:15/007:45 THEN ON

You will now dose the same amount, but for 15 seconds every 8 minutes instead of every 15 minutes.

Thanks J! I did it right...Yay! So far, so good today with the fish :0)

Now I just need to figure out how to dose ALk with the other doser I bought. I've been manually dosing Kent's Tech CB part B. Will have to do some research...

Thanks again J :0)

Just be sure that you get 2 weeks to a month under your belt with LaCl3 dosing before you take any other variables on eh? :)

Glad your getting it all figured out!

I nice steady month would probably be best. That way any small changes will be easily noticed.

I've been dosing the alk for AGES so it isn't a new variable. The only thing new will be using a doser. That's should be okay, right?

The variable is the doser addition. One screw up on code and you won't know what caused your problem, if one arose.

As cautious as you have been through this process, I would think that giving it a month would be a good thing. Your choice.

Oh, I see. I hopefully won't mess up the code :0) There are a lot of people who use the Apex and BRS doser so that doesn't concern me. I'll be checking the Alk daily as a precaution also. :0)

Another questions guys;) On the 22nd, I went from dosing every 14:45 minutes to every 7:45 minutes. The PO was .1156 on the 22nd, today it's .0547 . Is that too fast of a drop in the levels? It seems like it to me so to be safe, I turned the doser off. I want to run about .05-.06 PO to be safe that the LC doesn't get into the display. So now what's the next step since I turned the doser off?

Turn it back on but increase it to 9 minutes instead of 7:45.

The flow of the doser pump governs where it is going to go. You are just running it more often.

Ok, I programmed it to run every 9 minutes and 45 seconds so I can check to see that it's running every 10 minutes..... Thank you !! :D I'll test again tomorrow to make sure that the levels aren't too low.

Good.

It really is a set and test type change that you will need to do every now and then.

When adding anything to the tank we always need to make sure we test what it is doing.

Those not adding anything can get aways with sporadic testing of levels. A constant/regular dosing needs to be sure it is not going overboard or causing something else to get out of line.

I am glad you have a grasp and understand the programing a little bit more.

It really is best to set it to a finite time frame that can be reproduced in our head. We can check and count it's frequency much better. That little bit of checking will give you a bit of relief to know that it IS working, instead of... I wonder when it cycles.

Right, you are :0) When you get my age, you need to know all the tricks to keep things simple so that you can "remember" and "process" info correctly :0) I had trouble with the manual typewriter and always used the live telephone operator! LOL but, no joking :0) It can take me awhile to understand but once I do, I tend to do good :0) I test often (at least weekly) because the tanks are in the grow out stage and, for piece of mind :0) It will be nice when I don't have to manually dose 3 tanks...it will be only 2. lol

I tested again tonight about 8pm. The PO is at .082 so that's up/higher than yesterday which was .0547 at 3pm. So should I keep the same programming now and test tomorrow or Saturday?

I've also been testing the calcium and so far, no change :0) (Actually I'd like it to drop some as I was dosing kalk awhile back for the alk and pH but my CA got too high.) Thanks again for the help and support!!
