LaCl Reactor

Finally got about 5 minutes to myself. Figured I'd post the webcam of the new 200DD for a bit. http://guest:lemmein@alberthouse.dlinkddns.com:81/videostream.cgi

I still have to hook up all my accessories, sort out my rock/aquascape, and get my ATO going. BUT at least it is running and all tanks are consolidated.

My yellow still flashes my purple now and then, but my purple just moves out of it's way and doesn't seem to care much. All tank inhabitants seem very happy!

Sounds like things are moving right along:lol2: Great!! I went to the cam but didn't see anything. I did login as a guest. Don't know if it's me or this darn motel computer or what!! So how long has the purple and yellow been together in the same tank? Things should be fine but I do hope the purple is bigger than the yellow:hmm2: I will try to login again and see if I can see your beaut:dance: Keep up the good work and I do hope that you are getting some rest!

Purple is smaller, unfortunately. But, it was either take a chance or get rid of my old friend (yellow). I took a chance and so far so good!

No rest. vacation soon. We all know vacation isn't rest ;)

I have several curse words that I've mumbled under my breath here in DC! I know our vacation isn't important but it is to us and several thousand others who are here visiting our Capital! I think of how long it took to save for this trip and now many things will not be seen! I am so angry I could spit! We will probably never come here again so it makes it that more disheartening! Not alot of things to see and do here when everything is barricaded! We dod get to Arlington today so that was nice. The National Mall doesn't allow us/others to see much at all.

Worm, any suggestions for us to do/see here? Maybe we should rent a car and drive to Baltimore? How's the Aquarium and zoo there? Any good things to see or do in Baltimore? I know you said the traffic can be really, really bad. I imagine taking a taxi there would cost an arm and a leg for 4 adults?!! I'll be on here awhile yet while the 3 of them splash around in the pool and relax in the hot tub!

How true! Just don't head to DC! lol

I hope the tangs work out :0) Hopefully since they haven't gotten into it yet, they will be okay ;00 The size of the tabk should help too. You lucky guy!! :0)

Maui is in my near future ;)

The size of the tank definitely seems to help. I rescued the purple from a nano! Im assuming that he is so happy that he is in a real tank, that he doesn't even think twice about the yellow being the alpha. He seems very happy with no signs of stress so far. He scraps for food like he is the alpha and retreats when it is wise to do so!

Ah Ha! You have a smart purple then :0) I can easily see that if you rescued him from a nano, he's in seventh heaven! The tank is like an ocean to him then at this point! I haven't been able to see through your webcam...probably on this end. I've had trouble just logging in here...

Will be heading to Baltimore tomorrow and then on to home for Saturday. We've tried to make the most of it here but it has all of us pretty bummed out. Hasn't seemed like a vacation at all unfortunately.... I'm looking forward to seeing Baltimore's Aquarium tomorrow :0) Also anxious to get home to tend to my tanks and animals...not many probably say that when they're on vacation! LOL

Are you going to Maui soon for your vacation Insomniac? Can You pack me in your suitcase? I'll pay for the oversized and over-weight baggage! LOL You can pick up the rest, Okay?!!!! tee hee

Hey Worm, I've pm'd you a couple/few times. Did you receive as I don't see a record of them? Anyway.....playing it by ear is fine :0)

Maui Very soon!

I'm already paying for the rest of the family. I'll have to get you next time ;)

Thank You!!

Thank You! Yes it has been a long journey but worth it!
1 & 2. I use 20ml SeaKlear CR in 1 gallon of RO/DI water
3. I estimate my Total Water Volume (TWV) at 120 gallons

No problems experienced with any of the fish, snailsor corals  I took it REALLY SLOW as I didn't want to harm any of the livestock and it helped keep my anxiety down  I do not use the filter floss but instead use a 5 micron sediment filter. I also dose vinegar daily and have chaeto in the refugium. Thanks again! I couldn't have done it with out the help of Insomniac and Worm, and a few others! :bounce3:

How often do you replace your micron filter?

Thanks,

The easiest reactor I made for LACL was a phosban reactor with the filter floss. It uses a mag drive 2 or 3 that has a nipple to suck in the LACL. works wonder.

Btw if you are using LACL, you will need to monitor the alk. I had use LACL to reduce high alk due to bad salt.

I'm assuming that you had a T with a nipple on the adjacent part of that T correct? Sounds easy but you lose a lot of control on your quantity of dosing. You are also pumping the lanthanum directly into the impeller area. I would imagine that would get gummed up very fast. The more you gum up, the less consistent the method is.

I can see this as effective and cheap for fast phosphate reduction.

So far I have yet to see any alk drift in the time that I've been running my slow dosing reactor (which surprised me). I'm guessing that it just hasn't been enough to notice. Although since my move, I have yet to setup my reactor again. Mostly because I went to a brand new and very large tank (for me). I probably won't start building up phosphates for several months. After I get my rig going again, I'll start monitoring everything again.

Thanks,

I can't speak towards the 5 micron filter, but I went several months on my last floss/carbon change. Although I would recommend every other week or so.

I have found the floss/carbon very invaluable to scrubbing my tank water, but the 5 micron sediment filter seems like a great add to the reactor. I think when I put my reactor back online, I will be adding a 3rd reactor where the final stage is the 5 micron sediment (which will then feed into my skimmer input).

This should also cut down on needing to replace the sediment filter as often because the floss and carbon will catch a lot of stuff before it gets there.

So I followed the reactor idea from this thread, thanks.
I have been dosing 13ml with 2.5 quarts of RO water.
I do this for 30 seconds every 3:30 minutes with a BRS doser.
I haven't seen much of a change and it has been a few weeks. What should I change?
Should I change the amount of CR I mix with RO? Should I dose more often throughout the day?
Thanks for any advice.

I would just double the CR compared to what your running now if you are at 30 every 3.5m. My recommended dose of CR is pretty low. It works very well for me as a maintenance dose. You will have to adjust your dosage according to your tanks phosphate production. Are you running gfo? If so, I would stop while you are running LC. Just my 2c.
