LAK's 15g Cube

I just purchased about 9 lbs of rock tonight, to go along with the 3-4 lbs I already have. I also got sand (same kind TJ has) and a heater!

Getting soo close! :D

I know her little setup turned out very nice. I thought about sneaking it upstairs to my room here and setting it up. :p

I do need to make a ballast holder (I somehow forgot to include that under the stand)... although we may be able to hide it somewhere beside the tank since the cord is so long. I have fresh SW made for the tank, I just need to give my Tunze 6025 a vinegar bath for her, and pick up an aqualifter or some type of ATO pump. Also, I need fabricate a guard for the float switch so no snails can cause havoc.

Well we have water!

TJ came over tonight and helped. We didn't put the rock in yet though because the water was too cloudy from the sand. We should have the aquascaping done tomorrow and then I'll post some pics!

PARTY :D!!!
Nice!
Can't wait to see pics :D!!!

I walked downstairs today and my water is still all cloudy. Is this the norm?

I know TJ washed the sand out last night before bringing it over. We put the sand in around 9:30pm last night, and then added the water right after. I turned the powerhead off because I figured it would help the sand settle. It has only been about 12 hours, but I figured I'd be able to start seeing the particles settle somewhat.

I'm pretty sure TJ is headed over to my house in a little here. I don't have a skimmer yet either...would this have something to do with why its taking so long to clear up. TJ told me that a skimmer doesn't really remove sand particles. Who knows?!

I was thinking he'd be able to aquascape today, but there's no way with the water looking like that : \...Basically, I dont remember it taking this long for the water to clear up when TJ was first setting each of his tanks up.

Yeah that's all it is. I just bought the sand, new, the other day and TJ just made the water yesterday.

Who knows.

Yeah, I know TJ washed it because I actually called him while he was in the middle of doing it. He just needs to get his butt up so he can go and deal with the issue and see what he thinks while Im at work.

Do you think it'd be better to leave the powerhead on? Or is the flow just adding to the cloudiness?

i would let it be and let swift take a look at it, its one of those things easier solved in RL lol

geez TJ get up :p

It's just sand particles. We'll just need to stick a HOB filter on there for a few hours with some filter sponges is all. When you have new sand, every time you touch it the whole tank will go cloudy. If you don't run some type of external filter (filter sock, etc...) to help remove the particles suspended in the water column, then it takes quite some time for them to settle on their own.

didnt realize you didnt have a filter on it, that all it is then.

LAK, i have yet to buy a new HOB filter, some how i have collected so many of them over the years in FW and SW i might have to sell some soon.
Its funny if anyone i know gets rid of a tank or equipment(almost always FW set ups) i get a call to pick it up since they know i have a bunch of tanks set up.

It's not on the tank yet, I need to take it over today at some point. I need to shim the stand level as well.
