LAK's 15g Cube

Good luck with the tank Laura. I'm sure with the will and support you'll be able to maintain the tank.
Hope those "phone calls" work out fine TJ

Due to some recent developments, Laura's system is going to be overhauled. Hopefully the transition will be rather smooth, but I think it will be much better for the tank and its inhabitants in the long run.

More details and a plan will be released in a few days after I make some phone calls.

thats good news, glad she is keeping the tank,
love the acans btw laura

I like the new rockwork. nice frags :)

Thanks Sagi. Your frags rock.

Looking forward to seeing this tank grow up - tagging along here too. Keep your chin up Laura. It's an extremely challenging hobby, but as with most things in life the reward matches the challenge. Successfully keeping a small piece of the ocean thriving is well worth it in the end.

Welcome Jen and thanks for the kind words :)

No I didn't. Drilling the tank and adding a sump might be a possibility now. I'll know within the next week what route I'll be taking.

Cool. I like having everything under the stand, I just wish there was more room in the stand. I can't wait till we have a dedicated fish room when we get a house.

Keep us posted. :D

Will do. I have just been battling major heat/evaporation these past 3 days. Everything in the tank is doing really well still, though.

I have my fingers crossed. Drilled tanks with a sump are the way to go. I Hope it comes together for you.

Ah, yes heat/evaporation is troublesome.

Last summer we had a few temperature spikes.

This year we don't have the glass lid on the tank and two 4" fans blowing over the surface. Last summer we had a 8" (cheap Wal-mart) fan blowing over the sump but it was loud.

Of course this means that we have to top off the tank twice a day (~2.5 gallons a day) now but hopefully soon I'll be setting up the ATO Unit.

thats no good, glad to hear your getting a sump set up tho

TJ will have to come talk about the plans for the sump. I really don't know what the plan is. All I know is that I am not drilling that tank. I have never touched a tool in my life.

with the stand you have and having access to someone who builds acrylic sumps i am sure its going to be a nice setup :)

Here's a very rough sketch of what I'm thinking of doing with the sump (It's definitely not to scale  ). It will be 16" x 16" x 14" Tall. The skimmer is going to be a Euro-Reef RS-80 (9" x 9" footprint), and the return pump will be a Mag 3 or Mag 5.

I will be including the same probe holder that I currently have on my 40g tank as well.
