Large Button Polyp Question

I have a colony of large button polyps (the ones with the long "stalks") and there are a bunch of black/grey/white finger-like projections growing out from between them. What are these and why are they growing there?

I am not a coral expert by no means but it sure looks SPS to me maybe acropora?

is it hrd or soft?

It looks like a sponge to me. It will irritate the corals, so it's best to remove it from the rock.

Those star polyps look cool in the picture on the left.

Have some of that growing under a coral display rock I have had for a couple years. Looks exactly like you pictured- spongy tubes, white, fingering.

Looks very Dr. Seuss... I like it.

It grows and fingers and then just mysteriously dies off some but, comes back again. Has never become a problem for me.
