Large Chalice Colonies

Bpb - So is the flesh like a teal IRL? Looks pretty cool. What type of flow is it getting?

I just recently changed over my frag tank lighting to T5 trying to get some corals growing before my tank is built. I am going to try a six bulb set up and see what kinda growth I can get over the next few months. If you want shot me a Pm with pictures.

Absolutely a teal base. Close in color to a healthy Hawkins echinata acropora if you've seen one. Very similar. Though I've seen this particular chalice look light green to dark blue depending on lights and nutrients. I'll get together some correctly white balance and good representative pics of the bulb combos I've been messing with

Here is is about a year ago when I moved it to my big display tank. You can see the small frag plug that it started on.

That's crazy to see the underside structure. How many years of growth is that? Pretty color too. I see that it is low in the tank what lighting and how much flow? Is that color a orangish-red with yellow mouths?

Bpb - I am not sure exactly when I got it but it was a little over 7 years ago. Here is a picture of it when I first got it (it is up front left from the red brain coral).

Here is a picture from March 2013 that shows the color better. It is red/pink with orange eyes. I almost lost the entire piece. as shown in the photo it started pulling away from its base. I dipped it in Revive and it survived!

Turn off the lights and use a spotlight? :)

lol I realize it was probably a joke but here it is. Tank totally midnight dark. I take advantage of the feeding response exhibited by my LPS and feed them Fauna Marin LPS pellets every other night. I use a flashlight to target feed each one. Here's a pic of the aforementioned chalice. Lights off. With just one of those led tactical flashlights. Looks pretty dang good under white light.

Also to the above question. Tank is 24" tall, lights are 12" over the water. Flow is moderate and random. Sometimes it is hit with direct bursts. Sometimes it gets very little flow. Just depends on how the pump profiles are triggering. I use tunzes programmed on the apex and there are a dozen or so unique profiles on oscillating timers with conditional statements so they truly trigger randomly. The sandbed isn't exactly a low flow zone of the tank though.

That looks great. Beautiful teal base with copper eyes and green flecks. I think that's what it would look like under sunlight (my objective measure of truth).

Here are my two watermelon chalices. Pictures aren't great...my front glass is dirty. First one is 8+ inches and second one is 4+ inches. I just moved him so you can't see the green edge.

Here is a rainbow chalice that I rescued about 5 months ago from an LFS that was closing. I never thought it would recover. It's doing great and growing now...about 4".

Nothing fancy. I think it's a Hollywood stunner. Growth on this variety is quick. From about the size of a 1/2 dollar to 5" in a little over a year.

Very nice guys. Are any of you feeding yours? I find that mine readily and QUICKLY consume Fauna Marin lps pellets. I've been feeding them every other day

I usually don't either. But have been contemplating whether I should on a regular basis..... the extra load and nutrients in the system keeps me from doing just that.

Not huge, but a few cellphone pics.

SeaMonkee - What color is the flesh and eyes under a more white light?

Bpb - What size pellets and do you target feed all or just some mouths? Same question to those that say they are target feeders.

nereefpat - Are you a target feeder too? If so are you feeding the same Fauna Main lps pellets?

My Hollywood Stunner

jmf305 - Are you feeding as well?
