Large Chalice Colonies

Just checked on these pellets are you guys using the smaller ones? I see this is going to be a must purchase...lol.

SeaMonkee - What color is the flesh and eyes under a more white light?

nereefpat - Are you a target feeder too? If so are you feeding the same Fauna Main lps pellets?

jmf305 - Are you feeding as well?

Nightowl: bright teal green with pinkish hue, with hot pink mouths with light lime rings, rim is a lighter baby blue. Sorry adjusting white balance on a cellphone is difficult, lol.

Had this about 3 months, it's grown around 2cm round the rim. Fingers crossed it'll keep on going!

I can't quite match the angle and white balance but it's close I think. The growth is not uniform all the way around based on competition and aggression.

Here's another new capture from a different angle

I'm going to remove the hairy mushroom rock completely and then lower the chalice to the ground - or suspended just over it. I need to give it room without compromising the corals around it.

Looks great! Growth seems fast on these.

Here's one I've had for 3 years, It's around 8" by 8".
I started with one eye, now there's well over 100.

Thanks!
It's Jason Fox's Raja Rampage.
For the shot I use a Nikon D800 with the 105 macro lens.
The great DOF is done by focus stacking, you take a number of shots at different focus points and then blend the all the sharpest parts of each picture in Lightroom or Photoshop.
This shot was 10 pictures total.

??? Is there a camera that does that automatically?

I'm not sure if there is a camera that will automatically do this.
I use what's called a Camranger, it plugs into my camera and sends a live picture to my Ipad. The Camranger app on the Ipad has settings for focus stacking, you set up the number of shots you want then press the shutter and the app takes all the shots at different focal spots.

For this shot I did not use the Camranger, but my camera can be set to manual control where I tell the camera what to do. You will need a photo program on computer to stitch all the photos together.

Some great pictures of colonies are on here. I like the diversity of color and growth patterns. If anyone posts a picture after this please list the placement, flow, and type of lighting you are using on your tank. Its amazing how some are more knobby eyed than others and some have eyes much closer together than others. I guessing that's related to flow or the lighting? Anyone know?

kevinl - great pictures...I have a canon 80D with the 100mm macro...I may have to try that image stacking!

UKMarineGuy - that piece looks like it is going to have a very nice color pattern. What are the colors under normal lighting? Is that a reddish and green or teal?

SeaMonkee - your corals are on roids...lol. That is great growth!

I saw two types of LPS pellets which is the right one to pick? If I have a small frag will the medium be too big?

Sorry, my last posts picture got deleted

My 90 gal tank houses all my LPS.
I run two Radions gen 3's both blue channels are at 100%, UV is around 30 or 40%, 10 or 15% of the red & green, Whites are 5%
I also have a 48" Reefbright blue, Can ya tell I like the BLUE!! All this probably comes in around 22K or more if possible.
Flow is overboard as well, the tank has 2 Gyres 130 & 2 MP 40's all set to pulse and around 15% or so. I'm presently playing with the flow, trying to get all areas of tank with some type of random movement.
I do run a very low nutrient system as I also have my 120 (my stick tank) plumbed into the same system. Included in same system is 75gal sump & 120 long divided into a frag tank, and fudge.
Of course GFO & carbon along with lots of fish with pretty heavy feeding schedule. I do from time to time feed my chalices.
