Large pump for mixing container.

I have a Mag 18 that's a little too powerful for my 90 gallon and thought about using it in a 32 gallon trash can I use to mix water for water changes. Anyone have a thought on this? Do you think that a mag 18 is a little too much for mixing water? Am I going to have a major whirlpool going on in the trash can? I'm currently using two maxijet 1200's that seems to be doing a decent job, but once in a while the brackets well loose suction and end up flying around in the trash can. I thought that maybe the mag 18 is heavy enough that it will just sit there and stay put. Any ideas????

IMO, although overkill, it will work for that purpose. However, some considerations:

1.) Heat - a pump that size will cook that water. Not a huge deal but you want to make sure its the same or close to your tank when doing water changes.

2.) Electricity - You MJ's will do the job and consume a helluva lot less juice.

Personally, I would sell the Mag 18 while its relatively new and get most of the money back out of it.

That is 1800 gph. that is a 60x turnover for mixing water. lol. While it works I am sure the MJs are fine. I simply use a couple of cheap walmart grade PHs to mix water.

Also as a student I am big about minimizing the electricity bill. that pump pulls 175 watts its like using a shotgun to kill flies IMO

LOLOLOL.......Using a shotgun to kill flies!! LOLOLOL That cracked me up!!.....and to be honest I probably needed a good laugh. Anyway, yeah, I knew it was overkill but I had it laying around and thought I'd try to put it to use. I may end up selling it like serpentman suggested unless I find a use. I know there's someone here locally that would be interested in it. Anyway, thanks for the replies!
