Large tank suggestions

I am the very early stages of planning an upgrade. I want to fight every impulse to run out and start getting everything and plan a little better than I did with my current 180. I am planning something in the 300 gallon range and am kinda torn between a cube or a longer tank.

I am considering a 48x48x30 cube (~300g) or a 96x30x25 (~300g) setup. I am partial to a longer setup but also really like the depth of a cube. Any suggestions?

I have a 4'X4' cube, but I really want a longer tank. I would settle for 96"X36"X30".

I think a lot of it would have to do with how you plan t display your tank. If it is in the wall, I would suggest the length. It it is free standing, or out in the open and viewable from all sides, your cube idea is nice. I've got them both ways and really like the length...........

I was going to go with the cube but went with 120x36x30 three side view and very happy now.

Agreed. 10 foot is impressive. NYVP, I believe I read in your thread that this is a glass tank? Did they ship it to you or was it constructed in-house?

I think I am leaning towards the length. I think it will give me more options when it comes to fish. We are in the process of selling our house (my wife's idea). She convinced me if we buy a bigger house, I can get a bigger tank. Anyway, I will have to wait and see what we end up with. However, I want to get in the planning mode.

I love the more 3d effect of a cube. Seems like its really a piece of the ocean. I am beginning to build a 48" x 48" x 22" plywood cube, and the 4 ft depth is really cool. If it was longer that would be cool too, but I enjoy the symmetry of the cube.

a very simple way ofdeciding would be
go to hd or lowes (or wherever)
andget some cheap foamboard
and build a mockup of the type of tank (cube or long)
should help u decide of the type

smart idea or also see if there is a local aquarium club near you and go to some house of fellow reefers.
