Lars' 150 Starphire Project

That's a wicked setup. Darn! Who did you get to weld the stand together? I am looking for a stand like that. How much did it cost?

Well, I found a welder out in City of Industry. Just did some searching around on the web for someone who does aluminum welding. If you really want I can dig up the guy's info.

All together, it was about $700 for the aluminum, and about $800 for the welding (took about 10 hours of labor), but that includes the powder coat. If I had been smarter, I would have talked to the welder first, as he could have gotten the materials for cheaper, or just used some of his own stock. Basically if you just find a fabricator you could prob do it for about a grand.

Overall I am very happy with the setup. Having no middle brace is really nice. Makes it easy to work "under the hood"

I actually didnt end up using the cement pillars. The ones I made real quick from the small loose pieces of LR glued together with the Great-Stuff pond foam came out much better. I was too weary of the problems ppl were having with the alkalinity shift with cement rocks. Didnt really want to wait 6 months for it to cure...

Greg B (Kokob007) used the pond-stuff for his whole back wall and it turned out real nice. He also pointed out that it has the extra benifit of being able to jab those plastic frag plugs right into the foam.

Anyhow here's a pic I took the other day:

I think I"ll do something similar with the rest of the loose rock on the rock on the right side of the tank.

Also got a new AquaC 240 custom which kicks butt!! It filled up the 5L canister overnight! Not with clear stuff either. Nice green soup!

While switching over skimmers, I found that the pump on my EuroReef RS 80 leaked!! Will have to talk to EuroReef about it. When I took the pump out, rusty sludge poured out and into the sump! That explains why most of my stonies were slowly dying over the last few months. Weird thing was that the pump kept going, but was getting weaker and weaker. I couldnt figure it out till now.

great man progress looks killer bro! keep at it! loving the rockwork! its sick! how many chromis have you had and have you have you lost any of them? i want to get a small school but i read that they like to eventually thin eachother out! lol...

HAHAH, yea, I started with 6, now I have two "lovebirds". They keep fish-kissing each other literally! Guess its a courting behavior. I only lost the 4 b/c they got sick from one new fish I didnt quarantine (which I got at the club raffle. One free fish cost me 4 good fish). I think in a big tank they do quite well. It was real nice seeing the school swim around. They are quite susceptible to disease though, and it spreads quickly in the school, unfortunately.

hmmm, i am feeling like i dont want them anymore but i really would like a school of 2 or 3 vanderbilt chromis! they are so nice.... and they only grow about 2.5" so it would be perfect for my 30G :) i mainly need some fish to poo on my SPS lol.

Once again your tank looking great man, and freakin sweet rocks!!!
