Latest Aquisition

Melly~ Well, I posted that in case you wanted to read up further... ;)

The 3 most available Genicanthus are Bellus, Watanabei, and Melanospilos... The Bellus and Watanabei stay just under 6" and the Melanospilos stays under 7"...

Most of the Centropyge (Dwarf Angels) found in deeper waters can be "somewhat" reef safe... Flame Angels, Joculator, Multicolor, Interruptus, Potter's, Fisheri, Pygmy, and Coral Beauties are all hit and miss, but worth a shot... :)

Crazy! That's a lot of possibly reef safe angels!

I sure do like those coral beauties. I will read that article.

I want us to be more informative so tell me about those other angels and let's see some pictures!! I prefer to hear people's personal accounts of the fish and see their pictures.

Here is a link to RK Magazine's article on Centropyge...

Centropyge.net is another good resource...

This is the MultiColor I had for about a year and a half... It was in an SPS/Clam tank and behaved itself very well... I lost it in my Ick outbreak back in Jan 2007... :(

This is the Flame Angel, I had for about 3 1/2 or 4 years... It was with mostly Zoanthids and LPS, but I did have it with a couple SPS I didn't care about... Never bothered a thing... Never tried having a clam in that tank... I just recently lost it in a tank move... Not sure why, everything else made it...

I've had good luck with a couple other species of "usually reef safe angels." My Regal Angel never touched anything, although I don't think I'd recommend them unless you find a really healthy-looking specimen that is eating in the store. The ones with the yellow-orange bellies have a better reputation than those with the blue-grey beliies. I had mine for about three years, and then it just up and died while I was on a business trip last summer. But it seemed to be doing great up until that point.

I replaced it with a Goldflake Angel, which is supposed to be just slightly more risky in a reef tank than the Regal. My Goldflake has been a model citizen and I really like its looks. Only downside is they are pretty pricey and somewhat hard to find.

Keep in mind that my sense of what constitutes "reef safe" may be a little skewed. I know Regals have a reputation for tearing into zooanthids. I also don't keep clams. My tank is SPS-dominated, with a few LPS (acans, duncans, a pagoda).

You forgot the pics Jeff!!!!

I too had a Regal... It was the grey bellied version... Didn't bother my sps but DESTROYED my zoanthids... It was quickly caught and traded away... :)

That Goldflake is a gorgeous fish!!! :D
