You don't need to leave the door open; the heat has nowhere to go but into your house. To be hardcore technical about it; you derive more benefit from leaking the heat slowly into the house so less goes through your walls.

Well, call me illogical, irrational, and just plain silly then, but I like leaving the door open for a few minutes. Makes the kitchen nice and warm.

And yeah, I hope they do something soon too! Right now, I'm not suffering too bad because I have so much stuff that is gas run, but once warmer temps get here and the A/C goes on - yikes. Already planning on having a family meeting at my house on the topic and getting everyone to pay more attention to not leaving lights, TV's, bathroom fans, etc on for long periods and no one around. Also considering reducing my tank lighting period down a bit. Will probably grill more and not use the oven so much to avoid running the a/c more.

These posts are exactly why my wife and I are going with geothermal heating and cooling when we build. It costs a lot more up front, but gives you at least some freedom from the power companies. I may have to get plans in the works to grow my own oranges, raise chickens, and bake my own bread too if juice, eggs and bread keep going up. Can't make my own gas....hmmm maybe I could siphen it fromt the neighbors' cars :)

I think i will stick with paying the power companies before I do all that!!! And in saying that, just got my last bill and it was $220 again!

My neighbor just added some stuff to his diesel truck and he now can also run it on used cooking oil that he gets for free from local restrurants.
