There have been several people that have kept them longer than that but one of the biggest problems that gets brought up is they are known to go blind at about the 1 year mark. I also hear that many people who are unfamiliar with this fish lose them to jumping as well but I believe there are a few people on RC that have kept these fish for a few years.
There has been a large influx of very healthy juveniles coming into the US in the last few months that are promising specimans for long term husbandry.
