Could anyone please tell me if any of the following are dangerous in a reef aquarium. Thank you
silicon, oxygen, aluminum, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, titanium
Seems like they all could be in the wrong concentrations...silicon can increase diatoms, oxygen ok, aluminum and iron- not great, sodium potassium and phosphorus- we all deal with those, calcium -1420, titanium- doesn't seem good. I would worry about what is leaching out of these rocks. Isn't there a lot do sulfur in them also? The ocean deals with them all day every day but in a tank I'd worry about the closed system.
He's right, you have no idea the concentrations of silicates and phosphorous contained in that rock. Besides perhaps the toxicity of something, you might be fighting different types of algae issues with the leeching of the compounds inside. The rock inside your reef-tank is supposed to be porous to aid with the nitrogen cycle (beneficial bacteria). Find yourself some "reef-safe" rock instead or better yet, find yourself some genuine "live-rock" from a local aquarium hobbyist.

Interesting the replys.
I actually had several large peices of lace rock in the reef tank that were once in my FW tank. Within a year, they looked like live rock. Covered in coraline alage, small mussles, and coral.
I had one large cave piece that may have been black lava rock that turned into the same. It's been so long ago, I cant remember for sure if it was actually lava rock.
