i ordered one from liveaquaria.com. got it a couple of months ago. it was not exactly what i was expecting since it looks nothing like the picture on their website.

29g hqi biocube. this piece is on the sand bed, medium flow. i do water changes (10%) every 10 days or so. i don't add anything as i figure trace minerals are being replenished with water changes (i use "reef crystals").

the thing is growing, it's almost completely covered the rock but it just isn't pretty. i don't see polyps, i see "fuzz".

what am i doing wrong?

i'm referring to the piece directly behind the clam.

i emailed this picture to liveaquaria customer service and this is what i got back...

"Thank you for your inquiry to Live Aquaria. When placing the Lavender Mushroom into an aquarium it is important not to place it where it will have too much light or it can get bleached in color. This specimen needs only low to moderate lighting. Moderate lighting levels duplicate the mid depths of the reef in nature, and represent the lighting requirements of a large number of the corals and invertebrates offered. Species that fall into this category are very flexible in regards to the lighting conditions. For example, they can be placed at the top of an aquarium with low-moderate lighting, or at the middle to bottom of aquariums with high lighting.

Provide a lighting intensity of 2-4 watts per gallon using Compact Fluorescent Lighting, VHO or T-5 Fluorescents. Illuminate the aquarium using a 50/50 mix of daylight and actinic lighting. For larger aquariums, consider using Metal Halides to cut down on bulb replacement costs."

that was not the least bit helpful!

how was that not helpful.... first line says "don't place it in to much light"... yours is bleached... get it out of the light lol

also you say you got it from live aquaria... was it a dd purchase? I find if you don't order from diversden you get their nasty brownouts and the not so colorful corals

:rolleyes:it was not helpful because when i called to order it, i specifically asked if it would do well under MH lighting. i was told yes, it would do fine as long as it was placed on the sand bed, which it was. i have bought numerous things from them in the past always with good results whether it came from dd or not.

Mushrooms can be funny sometimes.
Get it out of light and flow for a while, and take it from there. My non-light loving shrooms have always slithered their way to the bottom away from the halides.
