Do lawnmower blennys eat hairy green algae? What kind of algae do they eat? Anyone have any experience with this fish?

Thanks

Couple years ago i had a lawnmower that ate hair algae. After it was all gone, he even started eating Spectrum sinking pellets.

Lawnmower are good algea eating fish to have. i had one for 2 years and after algea was gone or insufficient it started eating flakes.

Mine eats hair algae and most other types. He will also munch on Nori on a clip, but I find that I need to place it near his frequent hang out spots for him to get to it.

Agree with the above. Most will starve themselves to death before eating hair algae. They will leave lots of little bite marks in the film algae on your glass.

Well I guess it's a hit or miss with these guys on hair algae:( I'm having some sort of hair algae problem all of a sudden and I have checked parameters, made sure my rodi water source was clean with 0 tds, currently running some phosphate stuff, doing weekly water changes, feeding very little, running my lights for a shorter period, got a turbo snail who doesn't eat it. I have even tried getting a sea hare but it died after a week. He did it eat and I'm currently looking for another one but no luck.

Does anyone know what else I could do or any fish or anything?I heard that emerald crabs eat it as well but never tried it yet.

Depending on the size of your tank, I would suggest getting a lot of Astreas and Turbo snails. Even though turbos don't directly eat hair algae, they keep rocks clean and don't allow for the hair algae to overtake new areas. My purple tang also used to munch on the stuff, but not everyone has the room to house a tang. From my experience the more algae eating critters you have in your tank the better. Usually it won't go away overnight, but will reduce and eventually be gone.

Its my favorite fish...he eats out of my hand and buddies up with the yellow tank to hit the nori clip. He eats everything the other fish eat. Does not eat hair algae though, just the film algae off of the glass.

He's asking if you are the girl in the avatar, or if the girl in the avatar is your girlfriend--- I'm not sure if he knows if you're dude or a lady, so I don't think he's insinuating anything. But then again I don't have much luck when it comes to thinking.

Back on topic, someone mentioned emerald crabs---- they can eat hair algae but it's hit or miss.

Diadema urchins are a better bet, so long as you have a big enough tank. They also have venomous spines, so you have to be careful. Expect them to eat some of your corraline algae, but it's not that bad.

ltindle. Doesn't look like you're missing anything. Atleast not on the surface. Thank you Red and Bandit.

My Emerald died for some unsuspected reason. Noticed him whole in the back of the tank on the sand. Prodded him a little and he broke apart. Eaten from the inside out?

Anyway. I now have hair algae in my tank. Kind of flows nicely in the current.

Been holding off on adding anything new until I move into a 90g I have in the garage. Then I'll beef up on CUC.

Well, if it was GF you are pretty might not be directed properly!LOL
ltindle will be sure to get quick response to help among the many reefgeeks here!
Anyway, OP, my exp is they prefer film algae, but still may at least tear at some HA, I'll see tufts floating about from them.
Seahare is another option.
