Lawnmower blenny + Hair Algae

Has anyone had experience with using a lawnmower blenny to remove algae from the tank?

Ive got a substantial amount of either hair/beard algae. I have been doing frequent water changes as well as keeping nitrates in check.

Just wondering if a lawnmower can help with this situation.

it definitely can help control it, and with the good water change schedule should help get it out of the system.

I got one and basically watched it starve. I won't ever buy another fish without making the store feed it in front of me. I tried every prepared food I could find, but he wouldn't touch it. I tried algae sheets, wouldn't touch it. I had several types of algae (micro and macro) wouldn't touch it. He'd pick at the rocks all day and got skinnier and skinnier.

Mine died too, and I had plenty of hair algae in the tank for him to eat, that is why I got him. I have a sailfin now that has done good for about 9 months, but I will not get another lawnmower.

OP- I've got the same algae growing in my tank. My Lawnmower is constantly eating off the rocks and glass. He's fat & happy. Only thing is that lately I've noticed he chases my Pseudochromis every once in awhile. I added a Yellow Watchman, saw him chase it once, and thought everything was fine. Haven't seen my Watchman for a few days now.

i've had two and neither had any interest in mowing my lawns - and i had a whole lotta lawn to mow.

Mine was purchased for the same algae problem. It would not eat at all, not any algae or any food prep that I provided it is really skinny and will no doubt die soon.

I have a single blenny in my 72 and it did an amazing job still after all is gone its finding plenty of food around.. maybe i just got lucky but I'm very pleased with him

my lawnmower never seem to stop eatting. mainly just the light green algae that forms on the glass. but picks at the rock sometimes also.

Mine wants nothing to do with algae. He just wants to steal the meaty foods from the other fish.

I have one in a 75. It eats algae and frozen food. IMO, it can't do the job by itself, but I also have a foxface, purple tang in with it. My dragon goby will also go after the algae on the rocks.
