Lawnmower blenny

Hi guys, just wondering. My lmb is fairly new, not been in tank a week yet. He seems settled, hides a lot in the rocks, surprisingly doesn't go to the sand very often, likes hanging out under my toadstool leather. Anyway there is a lot of green algae in my tank but I only ever see him picking at the the purple stuff on my rocks. Is this OK, there is plenty of algae for him.

It looks like you have a bit of diatoms and cyano, which I don't think he will eat. My starry blenny mostly eats film algae, microalgae and the early stages of macroalgae. I recommend reducing your algae growth by limiting your lights and feeding. Once it has reduced, your Lmb should help maintain any new growth.

I have had luck getting them started on Nori. Just rubberband a piece of it to a small piece of rock and place it on the sandbed. My current one does not touch anything but Mysis.

If you want something to eat your diatoms get a fighting conch, they work great but for the cayno i used chemi clear once and it almost took down my whole tank but a lfs told me to try erythromycin and it worked great cause cayno is a bacteria , and it will not hurt you good algae and won't mess with your corals or your fish. does and give it 48 hours and you will be good to go. My lmb does the same look up red legged dwarf crabs they have helped keep my tank under control. That is what i have done and my tank has no more bubble algae or hair algae or and cayno to diatom. Try that and see what you think.

My lmb is loving his nori. At £1.80 it is really cheap food. Put a ripped quarter sheet in and he is there attacking it. Then the Mexican turbo comes at night and has a feast too. All happy 😊
