Lazy, Bored or Sick Clownfish?

Here is my Clownfish story. Maybe someone can help, although I think it might be an unusual situation.

Back in June 2013, I bought a pair of Black Onyx Snowflake clowns. They were in QT for 6 weeks and showed no sign of disease. They were transferred to the DT after QT and lived there for for about 4 months when suddenly, without warning, the female clown died. She was fine one minute and dead the next. After posting a thread and receiving some help via PM from MrTuskfish, we assumed that she had just died. There were no telltale signs of any disease and all the fish have been healthy since that time.

I decided to wait until the remaining clown turned female and then purchase a male. The remaining clown was active and would swim around in the tank like normal. As he got older and I suspect became female, he because lazy. He would just hang out in the corner of the tank where they used to sleep together. He would come out to eat and would sometimes be seen swimming around in the tank, but not very often.

One day I noticed what looked like a hair sticking out of his butt. The only thing I could find was an internal parasite, although it didn't look like stringy poop. Almost that he had swallowed a cat hair or something.

Anyway, I decided to treat the tank with PraziPro. I performed two back-to-back treatments according to the instructions. After treatment, he still just hung out in the corner, so after about 2 weeks between treatment, I upped the dose and treated the tank again.

That was about 2 months ago. He still just hangs out in the corner, only venturing out to eat and maybe a little bit in the evening. Other than that, he just hangs out in the corner. I tried changing his diet, thinking that maybe the food was binding him up or something, but that didn't help.

Is it possible that he is sick? I just don't see how since he went through a proper QT and no other fish have show any signs of illness and all went through a proper QT. Or is it just possible that he is lazy or bored now that he doesn't have a mate? I bought a juvenile clown over the weekend, but he is in QT right now.

None of the other fish are sick and have been in perfect health. He isn't getting bullied in any way and everyone gets along together really well.

I am guessing that s(he) is just sticking close to "home". Assuming no aberrant behavior or physical abnormality, you should be fine. What other fish are in this tank? I ask because the fish may be intimidated.

My clownfish pair stay in pretty much the same place all day - they have decided that the lower part of my overflow is "home." Really the only time they move from that spot is during feeding time. I agree with Steve - as long as the fish is eating and otherwise acting normal (no outward signs of disease, labored breathing etc.), I wouldn't worry.

I have a 1-Spot Bristletooth, a Cleaner Shrimp and 2 x Banggai Cardinals. The other fish swim over sometimes and he doesn't swim away. They all seem to get along really well and I've never seen any signs of aggression at all.

That's exactly where Clyde hangs out. At the bottom of the overflow near the corner of the tank.

I see him breathing heavier than normal after flying around the tank eating, but I suspect that's normal. He looks completely normal and I've never seen any signs of disease on any of the fish.

My wife says he's lazy and likes to "sleep in". But I just wanted an expert opinion on behavior so I could either take action or stop worrying.

I guess I need to stop saying "He" because he, is now a she. I hope she gets along with her new boyfriend when I put him in the tank. It's going to be a few weeks, but I think the new guy is sexually immature, so I don't think I'll have to worry about a sex change quite yet. Although I don't know how that works exactly.

Here is the new guy in the store before I bought him. He's so tiny!

And this is Clyde, or maybe I should start calling her Clydette. :lmao:
