Leak detector / auto dialer system

I have been looking around for a system that will give me a call on my cell phone if my floor becomes wet. Obviously this is in case there is some sort of disaster with the tank.

I have found systems that can detect leaks and let out an audible alarm (from champion lighting). I have also found security system add ons that call preset numbers when a home alarm is triggered, but they require a land line.

I don't have a land line, so it would have to be attached to a cell phone line to call my cell phone.

Does anyone have or use a system that gives them a call when a leak is detected?

I'd be intersted to see if there is a product like this available. Get yourself a bum pay him $2 an hour tell him to watch the tank all day and when the tank leaks he can call you. :D j/k but i had a alarm that tells you when the tanks leaking but when im home im always with the tank and then whats the point in having it when you're not at home.

two thoughts

first - several of the controlers will send email messages when certain conditions are met. I may be more in blackberry space here but maybe there is another route to getting email notification on a cell phone

second - home alarm systems are programed ot make calls. seems like it could be programed to call you instead. Just have the trip device be a water detector. I bet those high tech home device sites have something that can be worked up.

I'm in the BlackBerry space also, Could you point me in the right direction?

I really dont want to spend money on a controller, but getting an email for a massive leak is all i could ever want

problem is you have to have a phone line. for us cell phone only people that doesnt work. i wish i could find one that worked off of a cell phone or gps service.
There are adapters that would let you use a phone line. But they are not free http://www.coolproductz.com/

hmm, you may have to consider the blackberry approach. If you don't have a phone line and don't want to dedicate a phone service just for this you would have to go some other form of telecommuncation, and I can only think of web based.

I don't think those internet phones call regular phone lines or do they?

or, talk sweet to your neigbor about tapping in

Ya, if there is a land line in your house, the solution is easy. For those of us that do not have phone lines in our houses (cell only household) it makes the problem a bit more difficult. Need a leak detector that calls out on a cell phone.

The cell phone could be set up with an "emergency plan" from a carrier....the kind where you pay $50 for 50 minutes or something of the sort. Can't seem to find anything like this.

If you wanted to set up something to send you an email, you could do it for a little over $100 using X10 modules (and a PC with Internet access, and some freeware).

I bet you could rig up a leak detector to the I/O port of a neptune aquacontroller.
Actually, I already have the AC3 breakout box for a float switch and this thread has me thinking about adding a leak detector as well.

I signed up for att remote monitoring. 2 cameras and a water leak sensor. The system emails me and texts me when theres a leak, as well as set off an alarm in the house. I think it was aprox $300 + a monthly monitoring fee

That AT&T remote monitoring sound almost exactly like what we could all use. Now if there was a system that didn't have a monthly fee! :@
