you were right - I took all the acrylic off and the gasket unscrewed fine. Now, I have it out. It was put in upside down.

Okay, so now I will put the gasket in right side in and figure out how to re-plumb following your picture.

On the inside of the overflow chamber how did you seal the inner pvc return pipe to seal?

The way I did it was I cut the bulk head but I wouldn't recommend that what I would do if I did it again is buy two new bulk heads that are made for slips as in the PVc slips into the bulk head then seal it with PVC sealer
