Leaking Schuran Jetstream 1

Hi PA!!

I purchased a JS1 from you guys on 12/15. (was a xmas gift from my wife) even though I ordered and paid for it. I mounted it on the wall shortly after xmas and left it disconnected, My system was not ready for it, kalk was doing just fine.

Well on this past Saturday I finally filled the reactor with media (that I got from you on separate order) plugged in the Eheim and fired it up. well to my surprise, unfortunately it has a very slow drip coming from the small acrylic block where the red and blue lines connect on the bottom.

I was horrified, so I drained the reactor, removed the media and chamber, took out the pump. and unmounted the board. I visually inspected the area where the drip is, it has no cracks or marks of any kind.

So I decided to lay down a bead of PVC glue in an attempt to seal up this drip.

I reassembled everything, mounted it back to the wall. connected all my lines, fired it and of course the drip was still there, forcing its way through my new bead of cured cement. So I rinsed and repeated the whole tear down/reassemble thing and still no luck.

By this time the area I was trying to seal up was starting to looking like a PVC glue war zone. I was sick to think my 2 hands made this mess trying to fix it, but I also thought I was on my own in trying to get it to stop leaking since the amount of time that has passed since purchase.

Is there anything that PA can or will do for my situation. first I am looking for a replacement at no cost, if this ain't goona fly cuz of the elapsed time etc, I will fully understand and not be tick'd. I guess that's what I get for not putting it into full operation when I got it.

Next please tell me the part I need is in stock or at least I can get it? and of course how much? and how long. Here is a pic of where it is leaking from (note this pic is not my unit, it is just for reference as to show where the leak is.

Just wondering how this was resolved, as I have been trying to get a replacement part for a JS1 I bought from a fellow reefer for a few months, to no avail. Jeremy at PA said getting parts from them is difficult, so I e-mailed the company direct, received a reply stating "we are very sad to hear that Premium Aquatics say, that it's very difficult to getting our products, cause thats not true. We can send you this spare part via airfreight." That was 3 weeks ago, no response to numerous e-mails since. Meanwhile, I have a 400$ reactor collecting dust.

well, due to the gap in time from when I bought the reactor (xmas) and the time I first put water in it (April), I was basically on my own and told sorry.

PA did offer to send me some Weld-On to try and seal up the leak at no charge (which was very nice of them but not the answer I wanted) I thought I was buying a quality product and one that is free of defects.

I asked Jeremy to find out how much and how long it would take to get the replacement part, I have not heard on that yet, and I still have a reactor collecting dust also. That was on 5/1.

Do you have a direct email to Schuran?, I would love to tell them about my leaking brand new reactor and let them know about it, whether or not they do anything about it is another story.

Because of this experience, I no longer buy ANY equipment/dry goods online. because I didn't "test" their product when I first bought it I am now suffering from it.

For the Money we pay these company's for basically plastic, they should have a 1 year manufactures warranty against workmanship defects.

I am not upset at PA its my own fault for not testing it first I guess. its like the little boy touching the hot stove, once you get burned you wont touch it again. I feel I did get burned but such is life.

Hope you get your part!

My problem is in no way PA's fault, as mine was bought used, and PA has always been excellent to me. I have no doubt they have a hard time getting parts for this product. I have no worries when it comes to PA's dry goods. I sent the original e-mail to :

info@schuran.com

and the reply came from:
hermann.schuran@t-online.de

Good luck! Let me know if you get your part.

Patrick

Just so we are clear, I have no problems with PA either, they did not make the reactor and would have had no way in knowing that it had a leak. So it would be unfair of me to be mad at them.

I guess I am more so upset with Schuran for making and shipping a defective product.

Hi Guys,

I believe we are sending out some solvent to one of you, although I am not sure which going by your RC names.

Schuran is very easy to get parts from, however the manner in which they get provided is very tough. Meaning, we can get you a part sent from Schuran immediately. This however has to go on an air shipment that typically costs anywhere from $60 - $100 to have shipped, which 99% of the time the customer's do not want to pay when the part is only a $10 piece, etc. We can get the parts in with no shipping charge to the customer when we do our own house orders, however those are only 3-4 times a year, and they typically take 6 weeks to get here.

Having said all of that, this is why we try to repair or ship items for the customer to repair themselves, rather than waiting or making the customer spend the money for an air shipment of a part. We have actually thought about discontinuing the line due to these issues that come up. As of right now that has not been set in stone, and we do have another shipment on the way. We are going to see if the quality improves any with this shipment and go from there.

If any of you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to email me directly at jeremy@premiumaquatics.com or you can call me at 317-895-9005.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Its me on the solvent. I am in talks with Fa. Schuran via emails to try to get them to replace the part and resolve this issue.

We will see how it goes. I dont care about the money at this point. I just want what I paid for. A defect free piece of equipment.

I knew I should have bought a Deltec.

Jeremy, is it possible I can get that replacement part I need for mine on the next shipment? I can not reapair it. UPS paid for the damage, and the money has not been my concern. I have not recieved a reply from Schuran on this.

We are expecting to have the solvent in by either today or tomorrow. So we'll get that right out to you. Do you have a picture of the part that is defective on yours?

Patrick,

I am emailing Schuran right now with a copy of your picture to try to get some satisfaction out of this. As soon as I hear back from Simon I will let you know something.

We have tried to become the Schuran US master dist. multiple times so we can better service warranty issues, etc, however those talks have seemed to not get us very far, as I don't believe they see a need for it over here at this time.

Hey Jeremy,

I bought a Schuran Jetstream 1 from you a year ago. Yesterday, I was cleaning out the chamber and had just refilled it and put it back together. I stood it up next to my aquarium about to put it back into the stand and it fell over. At first I didn't think anything broke but then I noticed that the exactly same thing happened as what is in the picture that Patrick Kelly posted. The input for the pump line from the top chamber just split right off. I cried for a moment. I couldn't believe I let that happen. Will it work just putting Weldon on it and putting it back together? or is there a way to get the new top part? it looks like it's going to have to be the whole top head that is mounted to the board. If it's possible please let me know and i don't mind waiting for it to come in.

Maybe all 3 of us can place a combined order from Schuran and split the air freight cost, through Premium Aquatics? How does that sound Jeremy?

Patrick

Thats exactly what I was going to recommend. If 1sickreefer could post his pic I would like to send all three pics to Schuran and do this in one shot.

good idea guys......and good luck!

Jeremy...when you said PA was considering dropping the Jetstream line...what are the typical complaints or problems? If you are willing to say?
....I was looking at getting one as i heard Schuran's craftmenship was next to none?

so the original picture you posted shows where the leak is? it's coming from the union where the grey pvc meets the acrylic block?

Jeremy - when can you send these to Schuran?

Yes the original pic shows the leak with the little black arrow.

That block has the union on one side. and the gray PVC tube leading to the pump.

I am pretty sure I need the block as well as the PVC parts on both sides and the blue 1/4 line connectors.
