Things I have noticed so far about setting up a new reef tank:

- Rinsing the sand/gravel is a PAIN in the balls.
- When adding sand, water gets displaced.... take into account for that happening or your sump will overflow a lot!
- The local plumming store will know you by name soon enough.
- Every LFS will recognize you when you walk in

and

- You want to throw up from siphoning water when it gets in your mouth.

Put the siphon in the tank and fill with water make sure there is no air, place your thumbs over both sides, pull one side out and put into bucket release thumbs and watch the magic

or you could put your siphon in front of a powerhead if uhave one to start siphon

Use a longer hose. You only need to get the water in it past the level of the tank in order to get the sipon going.
