Leather Mushroom Toadstool Coral Stalk Turning Yellow. Help.

I purchased a tank from a guy who has had this coral for 5 years. During the move he ended up literally hanging onto the rock by a thread. It is top heavy and would never stay in one spot. I noticed a yellow tint on its stalk and did not think much of it since it has lasted this long.

Any way, I attempted to cut the stalk about 3/4 of the way down with the hopes that he would reattach. I read that the bottom stalk would grow a new head in days, but it has been roughly a 1 1/2 weeks and the bottom is just plain and yellow on the sides.

I gently slid him in between 2 rocks and he had brown polyps to start and white-ish on the sides (brown has left after I blew them off). His color came back, but now he is recluded and the yellow looks to have went higher, either that or he is recluding down into the stalk.

Regardless, I am curious if I should cut ALL of the yellow and dip him in some iodine, or if I should chop him up and make frags. I don't want it to bomb the tank.

Pictures wont load from iphone I will attempt to add them to my gallery or post in this.
