Leather question

I have a leather that was huge at the LFS. It has not opened its polyps but once in my tank. It has seen to steadily shrink and bounce back for about a week and a half. Well now it has some white edges like it is coming apart. I touched it to see it if would fall apart but it does'nt. You can still see some of the defined edges on it so I am assuming it is still alive. Suggestions or how can I be sure if it is alive?

Maybe move to an area of a little less flow if you can.

My clown rubs around in my toadstool leather all day and the polyps still extend.

Make sure all your water parameters are good and stable.

The bouncing back and going downhill again sounds like something fluctuating and stressing the coral.

Yes and no actually. Most leathers will expand and contract...often looking quite "shrunken" for days at times. They will eventually open back up...sometimes even looking more "full" than before. It's a normal sign of either acclimation or growth.

However, that being said...it CAN also be a sign of a stressed coral...and the white edges are a sign of this.

What type of leather is it?
What is your lighting, and where is it placed in the tank?
My leathers like flow...but not being blasted by it....where is yours in relation?
