leather Question

I sold my leather about 2 months ago. The person has contacted me now cause it seems the leather has a hole forming in the middle of the stalk. Now I know it was fine in my tank.. anyone heard of this happened with a suggestion for the new owner. here is what he has informed me so far

The hole is on the stalk. Nitrates, Ammonia and Nitrites all tested fine. pH is around 8.0, calcium was around 320 and I dosed more yesterday to bring it up to 420, no phosphates, no hardness, salinity is normal too.Since I use power glo flourescent lighting I moved all of these up closer to the light yesterday.

he didn't not tell me what "fine" was to him. and I know this leather was doing fine in my tank.

Any idea what to say to him. I feel a bit bad for the leather but I KNOW it was fine when I had it.

The lighting is different and weaker (NO fluorescents) i think and guarantee (hopefully  ) that is the cause

I hope that is the issue. I would feel horrible if it was my fault.. I cant see how it would be.. he is having a issue with a few corals. Xenia he got from me is another not doing so well. but then has a few that seem fine. like A hammerhead, mushroom and torch coral is doing fine at the bottom of the tank. but if he hasn't had them in there for long that could be why. I just hope its not something I did.

^yes NO fluorescents (by hagen) but IMO no matter how many watts not enough intensity so don't even ask.

Also what lights you runnin' sharynmarie? Could be because his lights are weaker your corals suffer

Of course... NO will never cut it, but it might be a good way of getting them to admit there's a problem. I remember reading a thread on here with a girl from Portugal arguing with everyone who would post that her NO lit tank looked brighter than her friend's with MH so that couldn't be the problem.

Anyhow, probably just stressed coral. Also, "no hardness" does that mean his alk tests are coming up 0?

^BAM!!! There's the answer weaker lights! Thanks for posting the message or else we would have never known

although not necessarily the cause its not good to go from 320 to 420 overnight either... never did it but the highest reccomended jump I have seen is 50 ppm per day except for mag which I believe you can go a bit higher.

I'd say lighting is the issue. While not as demanding as SPS softies do require a good bit of light. A couple of power glo tubes isn't going to do it.

lets see... went from 384 watts of light to 20..... Doesnt get any easier to troubleshoot this one.

Did you know he only had 20w of light when you sold him the coral ???

Nope. He told me he had this nice big tank With fish and all doing great.. I figured he knew what he was doing. Never thought to ask someone that.. if I had known I would have spoken to him about fixing that and offered to hold the leather till he did.. but certainly wouldn't have sold it knowing it was going into a tank with really no lighting.

Isn't it funny that we have to research our buyers before selling them anything? I have a friend that has pretty much killed every single coral I've ever sold her & she wants more. I'm not sure what to say to her.

The GARF website sure had some nice tanks that were supposedly run on just NO........

of course 1 bulb is not enough, but just some food for thought.

Don't we owe it to our animals, to find them a good home? Or are we just getting rid of them for money?

That's what I'm saying--but what do you say to a friend?

Ever hear the sayings?
