Leather shedding or dieing?

The other day my leather started to hide its polyps and just kinda laid down like it is. I know sometimes its normal bc they like to shed to grow bigger, however I became concerned bc at the stump it looks like its skin opened up and I can see inside. Is this normal? Is it dieing? I've never seen it so I thought I'd ask.

All my other corals in the tank are doing just fine.

I know the pics aren't that great but my camera phone is all I currently have.
Any ideas? Thanks ahead of time. The pinkish color of the coral is still there.

I would lean towards dying. When Leathers shed, IME they simply close up and shed. I haven't had one deflate like that. I would run some carbon for sure.

Check all your params. If they are all good, check for Iodine. Is your tank grounded? (If all the other corals are fine the tank is probably ok, but can't hurt to check for a voltage). I've heard of people's soft corals "melting" from bad wires etc. Also been told that softies need more iodine.

It does look bad imo. How long has it been like that?

I ended trying to touch it just to see what it was like... it started to disintegrate. A greyish smoke floating out from it, so I grabbed the siphon tube and as I pulled it, I sucked anything coming off. It was certainly dead. :/
