I've recently noticed that my leather toadstool coral has been staying open at night, WIDE open, and closing up almost fully or partially during the day. I've had no change in lighting, lighting period, bulbs, etc... no temp, no SG swings, just curious if this is something they go through once in awhile.

tank specs,
salinity, 1.025
temp 77 to 79
ph 8.4
am 0
no2 o
no3 o to 5ppm
calcium 380ppm, (trying to bring it up with water changes new salt)

other things in tank, some zoe's, xenia, frogspawn, 50lbs LR, 2 clowns, 1 yellow belly hippo, algae blenny, 3 chromises, a few crabs, snails.

Toadstools do act weird sometimes, Its opening so thats a goodthing, Do your fish pick at it during the day ?
How long has this been going on for now ?
My blenny loved to perch in my toadstool, The coral closed up for a week or two, then just ignored it.

Did you ever figure out why your leather was doing this? My leather has been doing this for the past few weeks and i cannot figure out why?

I know this is a very old thread....

I acquired a new one a couple of weeks ago and it did the same thing. Have you tried moving it to a different location? I moved mine and it started coming out during the day like a normal one.

I have about 10 toadstool frags and they all do this... I can't for the life of me figure out why they won't open during the day and only open after the lights are off.
