LED breakthrough, finally?

Awww and I just got a new roll of duct tape for you too.

My VHO's are doing good also. I do hate the endcaps though grrrr.

My polyps from NanoReef are all doing excellent and the Kenya's from Mike are growing VERY fast. My shrooms have also perked up since adding some phyto. Even the blue shrooms :).

must..... control....... impulse......buying

the really sad part is that I've almost spent that much on beer over the past week -

It's the rubber gasket versus plastic springed gaskets. When I try to thread it in on some of the bulbs/tubes, it keeps spinning the bulbs/tubes grrr.

no worries - they don't have to be tightened all the way down - just hold the tube and spin the endcaps until they're fairly tight - that'll keep the water condensation out - at least that's what I do... :rolleye1:

I mean the endcap is making some sort of seal on the edge of the tubes before I even start to get to the threads.

check to make sure the other rubber gasket is back on the inner tube of the screw on cap first. otherwise it sometimes gets left in the base section when you remove a lamp. that makes it almost impossible to screw the cap back onto the base. drop by after work sometime and i'll show you what i mean. there are two rubber rings. one seals on the lamp tube and the other seals between the cap and base.

Hmm I've got one rubber one and one plastic one.

Ok I'll do that. The plastic one is the one that is spring loaded I believe?

sounds different from mine

Add this http://www.cetsolar.com/ge100w.htm to the light fixture and for under $3000 you have all of your lighting provided for for the next 10 years. The internal components of the fixture run on 12 volts, just wire in a 12 volt deep cycle marine battery to it and hook the solar cell up to trickle charge the battery, put a 12 volt regulator between the battery and the light fixture and there ya go, everything taken care of. Right now I spend over $200 a year on halide bulbs, and another 60-100 on VHOs, and thats just the bulbs, add in cost of replacing ballasts, cost of electricity to power all of that .. That would probalby equal over $6000 in the next 10 years jsut to run the lights.

Ken stopped over a week or two ago and showed me what was what. Simple problem with the rubber gasket I'd forgotten about.

Right now I'm playing with Actinic 03's and 10k vs 12k 50/50's.

The 10k looks better with the actinics but I'm waiting a little while to see if there's any noticeable difference in growth with the 12k 50/50's. I may wind up going with a combo of the 10k & 12K 50/50's over the actinics altogether.
