LED buckpuck vs drivers

The pot and ELN need very little current 50-100ma. The stars are about the size of a quarter. Depends on who makes, what LEDs, how many one a star. I got XR-E from dx and ETG and that was their size.

I didn't think the ELN needed a power supply? Just a plug? OK, I'll measure 1" per led and 1.5" inbetween each so I can figure out the heat sink size. Thanks.

We both are. The power supply is supplying power to both the potentiometer and the meanwell. The pots uses some of that power as waste and directs some of it into the meanwell.

OK so I need one power supply. Its connected to the driver but the pot is in series with it so to say. Since they really don't make anything less then 300ma so I'll need 3 10v 300ma for the drivers and one 12v 300ma for 2 fans.

No you can use one power supply for all 3 ELNs and both fans (if you are willing to run them at 10 volts). You only need one pot if you are willing to control all three ELN at the same time

Yeah, I could add the fans in but if I run all the ELNs off the same power source,I wouldn't be able to dim each strand independently nor could I plug each strand into a timer for the dawn dusk effect. Correct?

For dimming each ELN only needs a potentiometer they can use the same 10 volt supply. each meanwell has a separate 120 volt input. They could be wired to the same plug or 3 different ones - which sound like what you want. Either way they can use the same 10 volt supply just a separate pot for each one you want to dim.

OK, so run all 3 pots off one supply, even the fans, but how do I plug each strand into a timer? That's why I was thinking I'd need separate power sources for the plugs into the timers.

how do I plug each strand into a timer? That's why I was thinking I'd need separate power sources for the plugs into the timers.

The timer should be a conventional 120v AC plug-in appliance timer on the AC input to the Meanwell, not on the DC dimming circuit. So, you can use the same DC power source for all three dimming circuits, but use separate AC power cords for each driver, with separate timers.

OK, for some reason I was thinking I was using the dining circuit as the power circuit. So I Will have one plug to power the ELN and a 10v powersource for the pot/dimming on the ELN. If I combine all the dimmers to one, I'll have 4 plugs total. Makes sense,Thanks from clearing that up.

Just to clarify the 4 plug you refer is the 10 volt supply that power the dimming circuit. The dimming circuit does not get 120 volt directly :)

Yes, 3 120v directly to each ELN and one to a 10v 300ma power supply to the pot to the dimming +/- on the ELN. Correct? I would run my fans on the 10v power supply but then it'd run all the time, or could I put a timer on that power supply?

If I were in your shoes, I'd use one supply, and plug it into the timer for whichever ELN was on the longest. You pretty much want the fan coming on/off with the lights anway.

Use one supply for the fans and ELN dimmer/pot? I guess I'll figure it out when I get all the pieces first. Is a radio shack pot OK or is there somewhere I can get a better more reliable one?
