LED fixture mount

Hi all

I am looking for slick ideas as it relates to suspending an LED fixture over my rimless nano tank. Things to consider:

1. Using the walls of the tank as a means for mounting are off limits. Reason being it is an innovative marine nuvo. Essentially the nuvo have been known to crack and I do not want to put any extra stress on the walls of this aquarium which could cause a catastrophe. I am sure that it would be fine to do but I simply do not want to take that chance.

2. I do not want to hang the light fixture from the ceiling above nor do I want to attach it to a mount on the wall.

What I am looking for is an idea for a slick stand-alone mount. Sort of a gooseneck that does not need to be attached to anything but can hold the weight of the light fixture on it's own. The big question for me is what materials are people using to construct a mount of this sort. The whole idea of a rimless tank is to have a nice sleek look to it and I'm trying within reason to maintain that look. Any pictures or ideas that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

3/4" emt and corresponding 90s and clamps. The only tools you need for this are a pipe cutter and a drill...don't forget to buy screws

Can you mount the hanger to the stand? A simple L shape (angled/curved, with or without brace, etc) mounted to one or both back corner post(s) of the stand can handle hanging lights pretty well and is simple to make. Having to have enough counter balance on it to stand alone is more difficult.

If I understand you correctly: you don't want to mount to ceiling, wall, tank sides, or stand.

What else is there to mount to?

I've seen floor lamps at ikea that have flexible necks. You'd could bend it to shine in the tank and use a par 38 bulb. Or... Find someone with strong shoulders.

Todddye: it would have to be a stand alone frame of some sort. The lamp proposed is an option assuming it can balance the weight. I am considering having a blacksmith fabricate something from wrought iron.

Use a piece of conduit. On the floor use a tee, one hole going up to the tank, the other two use to make legs. Then at the top either bend the pipe or use a 90 elbow to extend the conduit out over the tank

I built a bracket and use 1" EMT conduit to mount my AI LED to the cabinet. It can be swung out of the way for cleaning.

Now it's attached to a back wall I can make you something like it without attaching to the back wall if your interested. What light are you hanging and what size nuvo do you have

Take a look in my gallery. I use a piece of aluminum from HD and bend it with a torch. Then mount the light and use command picture hanging strips to attach the aluminum to the wall.

Here is a simple solution I came up with for my display fuge. It's made with 1"x1" wood and mounts to the back of my stand.

How bout a floating shelf system on the wall behind the tank? It would require some wall mountingbut would look pretty fly with LED's floating on your walls no wires or ugly braces.

These are all good ideas. I think I've decided what I will do. I plan to pick up some quarter inch steel bar and fabricate a standalone stand for the light fixture. What I plan to do is make it just narrow enough that it fits inside the legs of the nuvo pedestal stand... If you have a nuvo you are familiar with the short leg stand I am talking about...call it roughly 2 inches tall 10 inches wide. I should be able to fabricate the stand so that it will be nearly hidden from sight... With the base hidden underneath the tank in the 2 inch pedestal stand and the rear support braces hidden behind the rear chambers. I'm guessing the entire cost including the can of restoleum flat black paint will cost me $25. I will just weld it up using a small flux core machine at home. I am attaching a very rough sketch. Sorry for the quality....it looks like finger painting!! I drew it on my iPad....but I just wanted to try to convey to the general idea.
