Im confused! A pot cost about $4 and a voltage regulator cost about $15. And one has nothing to do with the other.

What is confusing? The point of my posts is to convince xCry0x that LED lighting does not use potentiometers to dim LED emitters. And that dimming a fixture makes it consume less electricity.

One of the two units that do use the Cree's is the 60w washer but it is 48" long, so too long for my tank. The other is the new programmable 4G - 48 x 3w unit.
My tank is a mixed reef(lps,sps,clams) 46 bow, so 36"l x 15"w x 21"h.
Do I NEED the Cree's?
144w seems like too much compared to a 4x39w t5 setup.

I'm not the go to guys on LEDS but from what i do know is that Cree's and bridgelux are the best that are out there. They are both 3 watts, if the fixture is dimmable you will never use them at 100 percent because you will bleach everything in the tank. Apollo Leds uses the bridgelux and i have seen their system and it work great.

For a tank this size, a 24 led kit from rapid would probably be all you need. Rapid recommends 48 LEDs for 90 gal tanks. Depending on price, the 24 led kit from rapid might be cheaper.

I'm going to order a bridgelux version, but not sure on what size to order. Im putting it over a 20h and was thinking of getting the 25 led unit but Robyn recommended the 50 led unit. Anyone have any opinions on what i should get?

Not unless you know what Cree are there and what the driver is.

I think the ones you are talking about are running at 850ma.

So I ended up buying a pre-owned rapid 24x3w kit(6led's x 4 rows deep). It is not quite enough on a 5.88"x11" heat sink from heatsinkusa. I am going to order another kit from rapid and heat sink from heatsinkusa, but I want to get some reccomendations....

I want to replace the two meanwells with dimmable versions and I want a more blue overall color while ALSO adding some other spectrum led's.

So....from owners, what mix should I go with?(adding 8-12 led's)
Also, should I go for the "ultra" bin for the led's to ensure they are all the same and good to go, or is that not needed?

Do not fall for this marketing trick, unless you are building something to win a competition such as best color rendering on earth, most efficient LED ever made in human history. There is no need to match the so called ULTRA bin, better bin .... to an used set you already have.

As long as the LEDs are regular products not the "X" inventory, they are all fine. X type means rejects from the fabricator and are usually sold to toy manufacturers.

I'm starting a 40 breeder do you think the 50x3 watt is overkill. I have spare 2x250 and 2x175 MH lying around and trying to decide which way to go. I'm going slow with the stocking but eventually want to go sps with it.
