LED for 40 breeder

Hey everybody. I've been doing the planted tank thing for a quite a while and I think that i'm finally ready to see what the fuss is about reef tanks.

I've got a 40 breeder up and running (no sump) with about an inch of sand and I just picked up about 40-50 lbs of LR yesterday from a member of a local reef club. I think that the next item on my list is lighting. I will be moving in a year and this will also be my first real attempt at a reef. Due to these two facts I probably won't get too fancy with this system until I get into a more permanent place to live. I was thinkin probably just LPS and softies.

I've been looking at a couple options online, but if anybody has any experience/suggestions that they'd be willing to share it would be much appreciated. The main issue with the lighting is that it will have to physically sit on top of the tank. I will not be able to suspend a light. (I'm not allowed to drill holes in our ceilings and I think that the suspension racks for lights look really tacky)

That being said I am looking for a 36" LED light fixture, does anybody have any suggestions?

Does anyone have any experience with PFO solaris lighting? I know it's out of business, but a guy in my fish club just offered me a 36" fixture at $200 which is much cheaper than retail from what I understand. (I do not know how old it is)

I know that PFO is out of business and all, but is this a good deal?
 
Reefbreeders has some good LED lights just get the 120 lenses for that size and shape, the ends will be darker than the center.
 
Try the reef radiance 155e. Theyre extremely cheap in price. Im waiting for the on tank mounts to come out so I can order one for my 40 gallon breeder too.
 
If you're handy you could build your own. I went all out (Using my controller with a device to dim them), so it did cost me a pretty penny but you could definitely do it for cheaper.

christian, the led setup looks very nice! mind if i ask how much it ran to piece that together? are you happy with the "spread" of the lighting? the main complaint i have read with leds is not enough spread with light and dark spots. with that many bulbs though, seems like you would have a lice layout. the corals in your tank look great!
 
I've used a few variations of DIY, and now have a Maxspect Razor 160w 16k over my 40br. It is extremely clean, sleek, only one plug and one wire to the fixture, and is working well. If you do DIY, however, I like running no optics as close to the surface as you can get, as the light spreads and reflects, and diminishes most of the shadows.
 
Kessil's have a gooseneck and a bracket that connects to the tank, you will need two A150's get the 15k model.
And as stancfii stated a Maxspect Razor would work great also.
