led lighting suggestions

i am restarting my aquarium with a new tank the dimensions are 48l x18 w x32 deep the sand bed will be approx 36 inches below the lights can anyone suggest how many leds to use in a DIY setup for me. i plan on having corals and at a later date when everything is in place an anenome please help me i want it done right the first time thanks james

I haven't done a DIY fixture myself, but it's my understanding on a 48" tank you would need around 48 3W LEDs. Also with ur tank being so high you will need optics in the 60 degree range I would think. But I'm no expert. Check rapid led.com for some good DIY kits.

thanks for the reply big thats what rapid led said 48 leds but no optics but i had the hieght above water wrong its more llike 8 inches versus 4 inches so it would be 40 inches above the sand bed
