LED moon lights

ON THE DIY FORUM THE REEFERS ARE GOING TO LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORES AND BUYING LED LIGHTS FOR LIKE YOUR LICENSE PLATES AND THEN GOING TO RADIO SHACK AND BUYING A 9V ADAPTOR AND WIRING THAT TODETHER THE SAY YOU CAN RUN UP TO 20 LEDS ON 1 ADAPTOR

I bought these blue 3-led dome lights for cars and hooked it up to an adjustable voltage adapter I bought at Wal-mart. Works great. I'd give you the website URL but the website is gone now.

The only thing it could help is coral spawning. I just bought them so I could see in the tank at night.

I think they're basically straight UV.

/yep, "almost exclusively near ultraviolet", according to the tubes of the internets. ("near" as in wavelengths near the length of the visable spectrum, NOT meaning that they're nearly ultraviolet)

Peaks at 370-380 nm, the LED moonlights are around 420 nm. I'm sure the blacklight will be fine if you only turn it on when you're looking into the tank rather than leave it on a timer. Otherwise I'd worry about giving your corals too much of a tan.

no worries Jason, I read a thread about it, some guy did a bunch of tests and the black lights have no negative effect.... the most it does is possibly make plastic brittle. I'll see if I can look it up.

On a slightly related note, I read in a seperate thread that the people at Neptune Systems are about to release a "Moonlight" module for the Aquacontrollers (including the JR). It sounds like this is a set of lights that can be plugged directly into an AC which will simulate a natural moon cycle by varying both the duration and intensity of the moonlights.

You gotta try these! They are inexpensive, work great, are waterproof and have 3m adhesive on the backs. I suggest the 3 or 8 led models, the blue is 420nm.

This is where I bought my 3-led lights. I thought the website was no more but of course it appears I was misspelling the URL.

Don't think I like the spotlight look, price is right though.

I think the sample on the website must be from the 24 led model, with the 8 or 3 led model the light dissipates more.
