LED Reefbreeders / T5 Combo

Tank is a 120 g. I have a Reefbreeders Photon 48 v.1. I also have two single T5 fixtures that I was going to add as supplement, one on each side of the Photon. Then I had to get a new tank and the new tank came along with a four bulb T5 fixture.

I got the LEDs in part because I didn't want to be spending a lot of money on bulbs, but it's hard to resist this nice four bulb setup. On the other hand, it's pretty wide, if I put that beside the Photon, would I then just be getting half a tank with T5 lighting and half a tank with LEDs?

Thoughts? Anyone else doing this?

I would go with the Photon and have a t5 on each side. I think a photon and 4 bulb t5 hood would be over kill and visually unsightly on top of the tank.

Yes, you would be getting about 1/2 and 1/2 with some overlap in the middle.

And how would your tank look with 2 different versions of white light and maybe even different intensities? It would work, but I think the tank would look ... like something is wrong with your lights?

I'd go with the Photon and add the t5's to the front and back of it.

I personally would scrap the T5 setup. It's costly to run, costly to replace bulbs, and adds unneeded heat to the tank(not as much as MH's, but definitely more then LEDS).

LED's can be tricky to get right, unlike T5's which are just on and off. But once you figure them out properly, they have a proven track record of growing, and coloring up of corals just fine with no added heat and the extra expense of buying bulbs every 6 months or so.

When I switched tanks and got new LED's, my corals are growing better and have more deeper color then they ever did before.
