LED sps cube build

Here is my 58 gallon cube build the tank is 26"x26"x20" standard glass with a 2" eurobrace all the way around

The sump is a truvu 30 gallon and a quite one 3000 return pump. The tanks main flow will come from a vortech mp40w. All rock and coral will come from my main reef tank.
Lighting will be 9 sunbright led tubes from a lfs in sacramento ca named exotic aquarium
custom made stand and i know a build thread is useless with pics so here

the stand is 38''x30''x42'' i had to build the stand larger to accommodate my sump from a previous setup

the first coat of stain

and finally the varnish

after placing the stand in the office it was heaver then i thought it would be
then the tank on the stand

What are the two bulkhead in the back for? Are you using those as overflows / returns?

yeah they are for on overflow and return line i didnt want a standard overflow this time around

now for the plumbing

this is one of the best little media reactors i have found

For lighting im using the sun-bright LEDS in a 24'' length i have two 12k, two 16k, two 22k, one 470nm and one 440nm. i really like the color they produce i would say it is very close to a xm 20k 250w
the best thing about these leds are the electricity savings each bulbs only consumes 7watts !!!

here are some of the rock that i will be using for the tank i pulled this out of my main reef sump notice the lugol's solution bottle for a size reference

im pretty happy with how it looks
here is what it looks like with coral in it and the lights on

the tank has been running for about 3 months now and the tank is getting filled slowly with corals so far i have ORA Nathan's green milli, ORA Miami orchid, ORA yellow fuzzy, montipora setosa, garf bonsai, green Bali slimmer, superman millepora, tyree tri color, tubs green birdsnest, superman montipora, atl sunny delight montipora danae, a few caps, some zoas and some acans

are you getting growth with the leds?

that set up is sweet. i bet the energy consumption that you are using is really low... more money for corals!

Not trying to be negative, but are you sure those lights are powerful enough to grow sps corals. Everything I've read on RC, suggests different.

cutegeko3 i got the leds at exotic aquarium in california http://www.exotic-aquarium.com/index2.html under sun-bright leds

nivram i have had the corals under the led lighting now for 3 months and i would say its the same growth as metal halide

am3gross the truck in the 3rd pic is a pull behind trailer

MGB i had the same thought as you will they work for sps ? and i was really surprised with the results. Exotic aquarium has had the leds for about a year on a 55gal with lps and anemones then they set up a 55 sps with all L.E. pieces and they looked really nice and grew fast.. i was still alittle cautious utill i saw the par meter it was very very close to 250w metal halides so i jumped in and built the tank around the idea of having leds for the main lighting and so far everything is loving the light

I'd like to buy and experiment with some LED's but I guess Exotic Aquarium doesn't have an online store?

Very nice setup, clean looking stand great looking tank and those LEDs are pretty badass.. I wouldn't mind putting a few of those on my tank, and the money you save from energy consumption is nuts!! good thread- any more pics though can't seem to get enough..
