LED sps cube build

Santoki,
Have you got a build thread or more info on your DIY lights? I'm thinking about doing some DIY LEDs for a small tank I'm planning to both test the LEDs and keep a few things I don't want in my main reef (Hydnophora, for example), so any info would be appreciated

I may have to get 2 of the blue Suntubes to try on my main reef as well... could be just what I need for a little shimmer in my system and a little more blue to my 384 watts of PC lighting

Hi Mykel Obvious,
sorry for the late reply... holiday family stuff :)
I purchased my LEDs and 8 9-slot circuit boards from Superbrightleds.com. I don't really know if they are the cheapest place, but their site was easy to navigate. They did not sell resistors so I had to purchase those from a different online vendor. The total cost of the project including the power supplies for the array if I remember correctly was somewhere around $130. I purchased two separate power supplies so I can control the 470nm and 420nm colors separately, but ended up just controlling them together. These Sunbright LED tubes where exactly what I had in mind when I started the project. I thought I had a good idea. I guess someone beat me to it and started manufacturing them :)
I didn't count how many LEDs where in each of these tubes, but it looks like it's more than 72, which makes it more cost effective than my DIY. If they come in the right wavelengths, these would be the perfect supplements for actinic without sacrificing shimmer.
I will try to take some pics of the DIY lights and PM them to you.

Can you post how much these lights cost or PM me?

Hi Saltwater Creep: I ran across this thread. Can you provide any update on your system? It would be interesting to see your results now that it's been running a few months.

I live in sacramento and also seen this LEDs work with sps. Exotic has it in thier 55g sps tank for about 2-3years now. These LEDs tubes are very expensive $159 for 1 48" tube starting. But Exotic has a video on youtube with the par and everything in thier 55g tank with 8 tubes of LEDS.

Nice tank btw. Would love to come see it in person. Keep us posted with growth of sps.

Saltwater Creep, can you provide an update? Would like to hear how these are working out. I've seen a blog of a guy who's had great success with these, but he's using their 2nd gen bulbs.
