LEDs for a 60 Cube

Hi all -

I am looking into upgrading my 175w halide to some LEDs this spring and am looking for some input. Any recommendations? I have a mixed reef, but generally stay away from any acro or extremely high-maintenance sps.

I am trying to figure out how much money I need to squirrel away from my wife!

Thanks!

Check out coral compulsions dot com they sell a version I the led fixture that's described in the "Chinese LEDs" in the equipment section of the forum. I've seen it in person and its pretty nice puts out a ton of light. I will probably switch out my 250 watt halide for one of these whenever I can get around to setting up my tank.

+1 for the Coral Compulsion CC-120 fixture. I currently run this fixture dimmed down over my 25g cube and love it. They are only $250 plus tax.

BigKev, how long have you been using it. I saw it in person and loved it and am pretty set on trying it out but at the same time my MH T5 combo has been rock solid. Do you run SPS under it? How's the growth if you do?

Thanks for the insight! Any ideas on how to mount them without hanging? How high do they need to be to avoid spotlighting?

Well if you have decided on a fixture yet.. I would look into the Apollo Reef LED Light fixture also.. Thus is what it has done to my tank over the past few months

This was about a few days ago. I bought my fixture back in August 2012

Kessil makes a nice clean led that would light the tank nicely. One light and a gooseneck mount looks clean and gives you plenty of light w/o spotlighting. I would go with the tuna blue dimmable IMO

Thanks for all the insight everyone! I think I now have a pretty good idea of what to look for and how much money I need to put away.

Still looking for a way a mount a fixture above my tank without hanging it from the ceiling, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

You can use conduit to hang it.

See below picture using conduit. This is how I was able to hang the fixure over the tank. Also its adjustable ;)
