my 300 gallon sump

my 300 gallon sump

I'm going to insulate the sump with R-13 foam board and then skin and seal it with 3/4" plywood.

BTW the floating canopy is up

BTW the sump is 68" long x 48" wide x 24" tall koi pond converted to saltwater sump.
I will be insulating that sump this coming weekend. My wife invited some guests for lunch this Saturday and as soon as they leave I will start my work. Can't wait to insulate that and glue weirs inside.

If this sump works without temperature fluctuations then next yr I will switch it with my 1000 gallon sump with the same insulation method. I have a 1000 gallon koi pond in addition to this 300 gallon pond.

Looks good man. Can you share what gears are you going to use for this setup?
Skimmer, Light and Wave maker?

As much as I like your aquascaping just afraid you don't have much real state for your corals placement. Those rock are huge and very close to the surface.

Yeah it looks that way now, these 3 rocks will be away from the center, and the aquascaping for coral placement will be in next few weeks. After I'm completely done aquascaping please do give your input again and I will re-evaluate the aquascaping. Thanks for the input miralami.

I know that I will fail 70%. But my R&d Project is all about what if I succeed? lot of ppl cal follow me and have success right? and I'm taking that chance. I have see so many ppl starting outdoor sump and it is all hyped in the beginning and all of a sudden they stop posting and that means they failed very bad and I'm setting myself for that. Hey,,,,,,,,,, no guts no glory right? please give me ideas or just critique my ideas. thanks

My only concerns are can you still access the wooden shades and windows you're blocking. Don't those plantation shutters need to swing open? Otherwise I like the idea of what you're doing

Yeah, there is a gap of 6 to 8 inches from the shutters and it is very easy to open and close the shutters.

Those giant rocks you have chosen are awesome!! Definately different and cant wait to see the systen up and running. The outside sump you are trying in the green house is also a very different aproach and I my self have always wanted to try an outdoor reef pond and one day will but your setup is kinda best of both cause if nothing will grow on ligt outside its still a giant sump (cant fit a 300 gal sump under most tanks)
